The other night I was standing by my sink with a bottle of mouthwash, deep in thought. The lid wasn't on the bottle.
Then, without really realising what I was doing, I shrugged as a response to a thought, causing most of the contents of the bottle to spray across my room, wall, sink, mirror, carpet, feet, and pajamas. 8)

I was really annoyed; partly because I had to scrub green mouthwash off everything in the vicinity and partly because I had actually done the EXACT same thing a few months earlier. It appears I did not learn from my mistake.

I'm curious as to whether others with AS/ASD also forget they're holding objects and consequently drop/break/spill/dispose/ingest/catapult/etc. said objects.

Never, it's wicked. Though it's supposedly so common and typical to drop/forget to consider things in hand for AS/HFA and AD(H)D which I both have.

Yes also inappropriate facial expressions because I'm reacting to the conversation in my head.

I have this weird memory for anything that I've touched throughout the day, so I probably couldn't forget what I was holding even if I wanted to.

I occasionally get lost in thought and forget what I'm doing.

Haha I do this too. It's embarrassing sometimes.

I've gotten really deep into daydreams but luckily for me I'm usually rather motionless when I'm thinking.

yeah, I do this. luckily I haven't shrugged with anything potentially destructive in my hand, but I shrug with my left shoulder when I'm in imagination-land and I'm right handed so I think that I came with a built-in safety.

I do stuff like this now and then, and I feel like to perfect idiot when it happens to me. But of my experiences are about accidentally hitting objects with my hands or running into them, and knocking them off of a counter, or whatever, but the cleanup is just as messy.

I make facial expressions, gestures and movements and mouth words or mumble to myself when daydreaming.

I often put objects down somewhere when I am in a daydream, and consequently have no idea where that object went when I stop dreaming and try to use it.

I don't really drop things, when I do it's because of anxiety causing weakness, trembling and bad coordination. I take herbal pills for my anxiety, but as I am more 'shaky' before I take them, I once dropped the whole bottle of them on the floor. It seemed very ironic.

I used to be able to get that deep in thought. I have been having some cognitive difficulties lately. They should be cleared up soon.

Yuppers.

I can easily hold a drink, go deep in thought about something, forget I am holding my drink, and accidentally lob it everywhere.

I got lost in thought and put a plate in the bin, and nearly put the scraps of a sandwich in the dishwasher
