Ironically, I hate gloves for some purposes (like working or keeping hands warm). They just bother me. They tend to make my hands dry out and chafe...maybe need a pair with the right kind of liners?
Now, if I'm working on the truck or motorcycle, I might wear surgical gloves because the chemicals on my hands irritate more than having to work with gloves on. For me, the gloves are less of an irritant than cracking and peeling skin from the petroleum distillates I've been handling. Sometimes I try to heal badly chaffed hands by putting on ointment and leaving it on overnight. For that I must wear surgical gloves of I'd get the ointment on everything I touch.
Then again, I have no issue wearing gloves when riding the motorcycle. It's not that they're magically more comfortable than any other glove, but maybe because it's a safety gear thing (ever fall off a bike and land hands-first) I don't feel comfortable without gloves on when riding. Of course, good motorcycle gloves my have no liner, but they are cut to fit naturally, so they are considerably more comfortable on the hands than typical gloves. They are cut to conform to what is called the "natural position of function" (hand naturally is half-closed when relaxed). Typical gloves are cut to lay flat. I also have a pair of electric gloves (not curved like other motorcycle gloves) but they compensate by keeping my fingers warm when they'd otherwise be numb from cold.
