I was having an argument with my brother who is convinced that I have AS and not TS (Tourette's.) He cited a few articles that stated such that since tics may be present with the autistic population, if one is diagnosed with autism, they can't have TS. The question is, what are those medical articles refering to? Are the tics what we call stimming or are they something else?

How do you injure yourself from the gravewalker?

I think I know what you are refering to - which is a pinched nerve, not a pulled muscle. Usually that happens in conjunction with a gravewalker. I think everybody experiences gravewalkers once in a while and is usually not a concern.

What I'm refering to is whether or not there is a distinct difference with:

* random interjections which seemingly end up on favourite subjects versus random utterances with no coherency.

* responses to stimuli which the majority is external (over-stimulation) or internal (impulsive.)

I have strange tics involving my eyes. When I try and look at things my eye muscles do wonky things and I end up looking at something else entirely, they sort of move away from their target. It is very weird. I have often wondered if I have tourettes tendencies.

I get those every day. Usually more concentrated around my neck/shoulder area. I dunno what that is.

My eyes blink/twitch uncontrollably when I'm nervous. I also have a cough/clearing my throat which is a tic.

I'm going through the diagnostic process now. I was previously diagnosed with OCD. I don't know if I'll be diagnosed with autism, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna say I have Tourette's or a simple tic disorder (because I only have motor tics now, but I hade vocal tics when I was a kid). I guess in a sense it might be good, because I think my tics are a cause of a lot of anxiety, and maybe there's a way to treat Tourette's that'll make me feel better generally. I really tend to get stuck in tics or repetitive behaviours, like picking scabs or pulling hair (yes, I also have trichotillomania).

For me it's really hard to tell where tics end and stims begin, and my trichotillomania lands somewhere in the middle, and my dermotillomania as well. THAT is really a spectrum. But it doesn't account for my social awkwardness I suppose, except in the sense that it adds to my general weirdness factor. :(

I'm not asking whether each and every one can be disseminated but rather if one can group a certain set of behaviours and label it an autistic tic and another as a tourette tic. This is not about classifying every behaviour, just some.

AS/every other type of autism allows a diagnosis of Tourette's or of any other tic-disorder.

I'm sure some people have their personal opinions about this too, but if you want to stick with the official system of diagnoses, there you go.
