I'm planning on moving from Utah to an area that has support meetings for Asperger's or NLD. I fit the Non Verbal Learning disorder but would likely fit in Asperger's meetings. I'm tired of not having real life support and am at a stage where I'm ready to move to where that support is. Ski season is over anyways...
Thanks for any info on this question.
Phil

I live near Panama City, Florida, and there is a local Asperger / high functioning autism support group for us (not parents). There is also another one specifically for parents. The autism community is really building up here. Unfortunately, Florida is one of those states where there are no government services for autistic adults. In addition, adults with any form of autism are ineligible for private health insurance.

DC area. For one the AS group accepts people with NLD, SPD, PDD-NOS, and HFA, and is well attended. Another reasons is the jobs available are more aspie friendly...tons of IT, research, math and scientific jobs.
It is a bit more costly to live here...but its not as bad as some places. Plus the metro system is easy to use.

Good luck finding the kind of support you are looking for in Utah...maybe you want to become a Morman, too??

In New York State, in a nice little community between Syracuse and Albany, N.Y., there is an excellent facility for Autism and Asperger's Syndrome called the Kelberman Center for Autism. The cost of living is not HIGH like in Utah, Washington, D.C and
other places around the USA. Besides, if you need things like Medicaid, foodstamps and other social services, New York State
is the place you want to be, once you establish residency and can qualify.

There is plenty of skiing places in the nearby Adirondack Mountains in the winter and fresh lakes, rivers and streams to go swimming, fishing and boating.

If you want to know more about the Kelberman Center for Autism, just GOOGLE the name of this great facility for children and
adults with Autism and AS. Many people have already moved to New York State for the excellent programs and services it
provides.

Thanks for the tips on areas that have some support.

I was born in D.C. in 1960 and lived there the first two years of my life. Florida has been nice when I visit my mother in Naples in the winter. The summers though can be pretty stifling I hear. One of my brothers lives in Saratoga Springs, NY and the rest live in Massachusetts. I think I'll be New York (upstate) bound in a couple months. I'm a General Contractor so hopefully the economy will be doing better in that department. Ski areas are one of my favorite 'meds' in the winter. Helps ward off the seasonal affective disorder I also deal with.
