My parents didn't really understand the concept of "stims". They thought they were just 'nervous ticks" or "compulsions". I remember my mother saying I was on something called Anafranil as a kid. I looked it up and it's an OCD drug. I did see a stupid psychiatrist that wouldn't send me out of the room when talking about something embarrassing to my parents and would talk about my bed-wetting in front of me. I'm wondering if they gave me the Anafranil to try and drug my stims away. I'm pretty sure there are some hard core ABAist people who would do such a thing to their children.

Thankfully, no. But I bet there are other autistic people (especially children with "autism parents") who have been drugged in an attempt to eliminate stims.

Not for stimming, but a teacher decided I should be on Ritalin because she said I was hyperactive. Terrible stuff. Fortunately, I was only on it for a very short time.

I'm put on an anti-anxiety med for doctor visits to make the examination easier. Eye exams too.

I wasn't as a child. My parents thought I was being cute.

My doctor recently put me on Cogentin since I was having trouble staying still the last time I saw him. When I was in hospital, they cut down the number of medications I was taking, so now I'm not as "doped up" as I used to be.

Not sure whether it was for stimming but between the ages of 3 and 5 I was put on diazepam (Valium) to try to make me sit still or to suppress my intellectual development considering it was the late 1960s and early 1970s. Then labelled incorrectly as 'mentally ret*d' the older medical term for learning disability (British). In neurodiverse children in the early 1970s it was pretty common for children to be drugged on benzodiazepines especially autistic children from working class backgrounds perhaps to stop symptoms such as stimming or for undiagnosed ADHD or to justify stripping or to justify labelling as having an extremely low IQ knowing full well the medical system back then could get away with such unethical practices especially if the parents are of low intelligence/uneducated. It wouldn't surprise me if in medical records of such people as children there would be a lot of abusive language used. In order to have the child put into an institution. No wonder I have always said I was born 24 years too early.

Several times. Ritalin in second grade, this backfired as it only made my behaviors worse. Thorazine and melaril in junior high, to the point of altered perception and very slow processing of information. I was gjven little more than here take this, but my "fidgeting" was often mentioned.

No I was just whipped with a belt and/or grounded until I learned to stop if it was something majorly offensive to my family. I was teased and harassed if it were more minor.

It sort of worked I guess. My stims are more subtle than most on the spectrum.

I was a kid in the 90s so they saw my stims and called them ADHD. They gave me ritalin for a hot minute. Cures all evils, right? ... Except if you have kidney disease, then it makes your kidneys bleed. laugh. out. loud.

That's harsh. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Never drugged, just shamed into hiding my stims.

I wasn't drugged for my stims. My mum actually thought my stims were cute. She knew that I was trying to copy the same optical illusion as a magazine ad with a picture of a person lowering their legs on a bed.
