Okay, forgot about this until now. What are the legal benefits of having a diagnosis? I am aware I can probably use this for cheaper public transport (bus weekly and monthly pass IIRC). What else? Scholarships? etc. wondering.

Don't know, but then again I never sought any out....though I am quite well aware that my diagnosis played a part in my law school's decision to give me a scholarship.

Aw, for a second there I thought you meant a discount on diagnoses. (Or possibly that you were discounting the validity of some people's diagnoses.)

Lovehate is a great word. I instantly understood what you menat by it.

I lovehate eye contact, I love making that connection with someone, but often also feel hyperaware and self conscious, and sometimes it feels way too intimate.

I'm not sure that's to do with my AS-ness though. It could be because I so often failed to fit in and got labelled a weirdo or a freak, so connecting with people is like a big event for me.

Actually if you get a diagnosis and qualify for social security and get the medical, you would be considered disabled. In my state, I can get a disability pass and ride the bus for either a discounted fare or ride for free. If you get SSI and medicaid, you can ride for free if you do not work. I would call your local transit authority because each state may be different and they would help you with that.
