So far people seem to have been searching for one cause of Autism, and have come up with lot's of theories. Surely it's possible that there isn't one single causes, and that different causies have similar outward effects? It would certainly explain why Aspies tend to have wildly differing ways of seeing the world on the inside, and some have extreme emotions others none, hypersensory issues etc.

autism is a hard to thing for the true cause, there is a genetic component and an environmental component. Some have genetic testing see no autism pops up, yet have a line of "weird" or "autistic like" family members, some have autism pop up on the genetics test and have virtually no family members who show any traits. Then there is the whole environmental cause, polluition, vaccines, toxins, and other stuff that is mentioned. I personally think there is some kind of genetic make up in eveyr person diagnosed with autism, and something triggers that gene to become announced for some very early on when their born, or for others when their 1 or 2 or 3. Its like the gun is full of autism bullets, but something else is pushing the trigger to how many bullets come out, does that make any sense lol. Thats just my take on it though.

At the autism conferences I attend, it seems the NT researchers have finally started noticing this too, Magneto. They have not been able to draw any conclusions from research based on us as a single group - duh, they should have called you years ago!. They are now trying to sort us into subgroups based on ADOS profiles, but no break throughs reported yet.

I bet if we cared to band together, pour millions of dollars into our efforts, and start researching NTs, we'd make way faster progress in finding a cure for NTism, but then who would run the world for us?

They're trying to sort us into subgroups? Don't they realise we are a very neurodiverse group of people?

The only way they can be sure of different causes? Well, they could try asking us and finding out what we're like 'on the inside'. However, that would require acknowledging our presence...

Aint no happening as ling as the "them" & "us" dicotomy continues.

We are the specimen they are the examiners.

I worked in schools and it was not incommon for the very people who worked with the kids and expressed love for them to gossip about the horrible parent who displayed ASD charisteristics and were horridied to find out I was one of "them" I had to bit my tongue when my boss said she was disapointed in a atism conference she attended. She complained that the presenters must have been autistic (how presumtuous!)
