I was listening to Coast to Coast on the radio last night and a guy with AS came on and said he was the "autistic whisperer" because he could understand what nonverbal autistics really want to say, telepathically.

Compounding this mess is that he said he has seen two severe autistics sit in a room and spontaneously laugh at the same time, which he feels is evidence that they shared a "telepathic thought."

The guy went on and on defining what is autism and talking about his spirit friend, Stash, and he ignored three of the interviewer's questions completely while monologuing non-stop. Finally, the interviewer said, "Are you going to answer my questions or not? This isn't an autism education show. It's about your psychic ability."

This is the guy:

As you can see from the site, he does have a positive view of ASD and most likely has some great insights. But, the show was just weird.

From the coast-to-coast website, there were links about articles saying that autistics are telepathic. Many seem ignorant, saying things like "He was trapped in his own world, but I could access it through telepathy."

This just feels exploitive.
Here is one such example:

What do you think?

coast-to-coast is run by crackpots whose goal is to sucker feeble minded into believing in UFOs and ghosts and government conspiracies, so they can charge money for streaming broadcasts, and books, and public appearances, and DVD, and survival food, and whatever else they are trying to peddle.

Hardcore followers of coast-to-coast are an ignorant bunch.

Very odd. We might be more likely to notice things, what with the detail-oriented nature of autistic sensory processing; but psychic anything hasn't been proven on any human--autistic or otherwise.
