I had my OT evaluation today.
I don't know when my first appt is but I'll try to update this post when i know.

I'm having mine done at a place for kids because they don't have any for adults in my area. But at least Its something right?.

In the meantime.....

Anyone have sensory integration therapy?

How did it go for you?

Yeah. One of them was using this brush to brush my skin. I don't know what else was for my sensory issues but in OT, she also had me plays games in there like Rush Hour, she had me swing on the swing picking up balls. I know some of it was to help my balance.

I had SI at about that age. I found it helpful. I think it helped me feel a little more comfortable in my own skin.
The effectiveness of SI in adults is less than kids I think.

I don't recall too much, but I got spinning to increase my tolerance; balance with a large ball; and some pressure stuff. It was my favorite thing, she would put me between several cushions so I was a human taco. :)

I'm too ignorant to know what Sensory Integration is. I'm no help to you at all, but can you fill me in? Thanks. Aenig.

Hope that helps.

And don't feel bad for not knowing, my sister told me about it. Otherwise I wouldn't have known.

Well I had my first visit yesterday.

I'm doing something called a brush regiment .
Basically I use a soft bristled scrub brush and brush my arms from my shoulders toward my hands. Slowly, and firmly. Every 2 hours.

This is supposed to stimulate my nerve endings and help desensitize my tactile sense.

I rated very high on all sensory problems except oral. I actually didn't know there was even a oral sensory problem.
I guess thats why I'm not a pick eater.

I had 6 months of sensory integration therapy when I was 37. It has helped me a lot. I had the Wilbarger Protocol, listening therapy and balance training. Ask your OT about these things.

Can anyone tell me to the cost of seeing an OT? I NEED it but we're not sure on how much it costs and we might have to drop our insurance soon.

If you still have insurance then you will probably only pay the co-pay for each visit. For me it is 30$ each visit but yours might be different.

It is hard to find a place that treats adults. I'm the only adult they let go to this place because they only treat kids.

So start looking soon. And if they say they don't take adults then beg them to take you anyways. That's how I got in.

is it common for your sensory problems to go back and forth from really intense senses to really dull ones.

I mean does the volume or intensity of your senses go way up to where you can feel a crumb on you bed. then the volume goes way down to where you cant feel anything?

I have this but is it common?
