I have a feeling that I'm on my way out, as well. This community has changed a lot, since 2004. 2004 seemed to be the Beatlemania of WrongPlanet and everybody was supportive of one another. Five years later in 2009, I feel that I'm drifting away from the war zone.

Agree cockmnney I wonder how Alex feels about it because in many of his writing he has been on the sde of commanding respect to each other and socialising with all you know and not just trolling

It's just so sad... it's so unnecessary, too... I love my aspie husband -- with all my heart, and for most of my life -- and I've never once felt superior to him. If anything, he's like this really successful aeronautical engineer, designing really cool stuff for the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A380 and I've ALWAYS looked up to him -- since we were both 14 -- and he would take his motocross bike apart and put it back together EVERY weekend!! ! I idolized him and he was into reading all about philosophy and comparative religion and politics and he had a lot to do with how I overcame my awful childhood, keeping me away from my house so I'd be safe for awhile. And during those long hours hiding from my abusive father, he showed me that the world was this really big amazing place full of all sorts of interesting things to learn and grow from. I owe him so much for who I've become. He LITERALLY saved me when we were children, being the ONLY person to tell me I was worthy of love back then! I can't bear the thought that I'm grouped with the bullies and the sadists who tortured the traumatized aspies here! I want to help create a world where aspies are supported in being the shining people they all have the potential of being.... like ALL people, of all walks of life, and of all neurological types!

Hey, all you aspies -- you're NOT on the wrong planet! And hey all you NTs -- aspies are NOT aliens! And hey all you WP admins and mods -- we're all in this life together! We can all be here at WP and find solutions and support together, can't we? Does ANYONE have to bleed? WP's motto reads: "The online resource and community for Autism and Asperger's" not, "The online resource and community for Autistics and Aspies." Think about it. Those of us who have aspie loved ones ALSO need an "online resource and community for Autism and Asperger's" if we are to love them and support them according to their needs. What does lumping us in with bullies and sadists accomplish? For anyone, including the traumatized aspies?

Trying to stay because I think this place is soooo close to getting it right for everyone who shows up needing AS-related community,

I certainly won't be leaving unless forced out. Reading all these self-righteous, blame the world, hate filled posts makes me realise that i'm not rock-bottom and that there is a still a great distance left for me to fall. Wrongplanet is too much of an ego boost , sadly i don't think the purpose of the forum was to help or support people in this way.

I certainly understand what everyone is saying here though, the community as a whole isn't supporting people when they minimise the hate-filled crap smeared into some of these threads, they are just enabling these people to fail in the long-term and perhaps their entire lives. If i was capable of basic emotional states i probably wouldn't be able to handle it, i imagine it would be quite sad watching the community consign these people to a life of misery, because they'd greedily rather be that persons friend instead of helping said person improve their life.

Most people here seem more interested in removing what little NT traits they have. Like, having emotions, being intuitive, recognising facial expressions, body language and understanding social situations is seen as dirty!. If you were to strip out the words here, and look at what is really being said, you'd more than likely see....

It breaks my heart to see this thread...

I don't post much on WP any more, partly because I really am withdrawing into myself, partly because there are two or three newer Mods, that I feel were unfortunate choices, because they seem driven to do that appalling "NT/pecking order" thing and find excuses to flex muscles and throw their weight around in unreasonable ways, just to establish dominance...

But I thought it was just me, my idiosyncrasy, my problem.

It is very hard, and sad to see discomfort becoming widespread.

I first came across Alex (without the first clue who he was) as ordinary editors on Wikipedia, slugging it out against "The forces of darkness". Strangely, Wikipedia was another great, utopian idea that worked against all odds for a while before descending into a toxic bearpit of social politics...

I guess that is happening here too?

It's one hell of a shame because, I am sure nobody wants reminding, but this recession is VERY real, and could be devastating to all of us...

Let me STRESS THIS, the truth is that not all of us will find a way to survive this recession, at best.

Poverty and the law of the jungle go hand in hand...and we do not do well with "the law of the jungle".

Most of us look perfectly ok, even intelligent and arrogant...we are not cute, cuddley and sympathetic.

We are intrinsically handicapped in terms of tolerating, let alone being able to join, the social groupings where most will gather for shelter and protection.

We are usually somewhere between inept and incapable at asserting and negotiating even our fundamental survival needs...we can either demand them aggressively in a state of half meltdown, which never works, or retreat into the darkest corner we can find and suffer in silence.

To add to this, the only powerful lobbies related to us work with no understanding of us, and largely against our best interests.

There is a very real risk of significant numbers of us winding up homeless and denied all means of sustenance, or herded into institutions that, of their nature, exacerbate our condition to the point where we effectively BECOME the head banging, dribbling and drooling morons so many would like to present us as.

This is REAL people...and it is now...

The only defence we have is whatever strength and unity we can build and show amongst ourselves. We cannot afford to let any autonomous resources slide...

So I am asking you all to bear with WP...

...and I am asking Alex to look at ways of halting the slide here.

One thing I would suggest is that moderators be rotated from a pool of volunteers and only serve as moderators for 3 months at a time...which keeps us all nice and equal, the way Aspies need to be, WITHOUT "pecking order dynamics" and leaves the personal agendae OUT of moderation completely.

Any more suggestions?

Wow, mechanima, it's a shame you don't post more often (you said you don't much anymore). You seem to have so much to offer. I found your post to be incredibly insightful and showed me sides of the this issue that I hadn't realized were true. Thank you for giving voice to these real-world far-reaching consequences that we all should take care to not allow to happen by default of doing/saying nothing.

Do you think there's a chance that the WP staff will really listen to our pleas for change?

Just don't read the superiority over NTs threads I suppose. Otherwise, reply to them as follows:

I would like to think that the moderators here are willing to listen to feedback and suggestions with open arms; I know that I solicit feedback whenever possible... and that we are trying to create a mutually beneficial atmosphere for all. However, it is important to remember that no system will please everyone. I look forward when we are ready to move from the complaining stage to one where there is interest in moving forward with suggestions.

I think the only REAL staff is still Alex...and maybe Mr Mister, and one other I can't think of...and I am SURE they will, at least listen, if they see this.

This site worked better than any other board I ever saw (of any kind) for AGES until new moderators started getting appointed.

Aspies do not relate well to control and authority, whether receiving it or dishing it out, and, I think, need a less traditional model where moderating is a temporary, voluntary, *responsibility*, not perceived as a position of *permanent authority*, and thus some kind of higher rank or status.

Enthusiastic directness towards real feelings and thoughts that not that many people are capable of will be sadly missed. I in particular have to bite my tongue in order not to speak up, even though someone really should, I am not capable of expressing or presenting the humble truth. Your presence would be a Great Loss to the community. I say this with a real tear welling up - you have so much to contribute - so much sincerity with reality, this is a very sad thought.

Nt or aspie, I don't care, nor is it important to me, fact is, we all have something in common, we all have differences, which ever one we choose to feed will grow. The term care perhaps is a little out of place, but what I mean is that I have never clicked on quite a few forums and topics here - due to the fact they do Not apply, nor appeal too me.

I have found throughout life, that regardless of what I find, somehow I was looking for it in the first place. Of course this is not any of my business to analyze the hell out of everything (though I try), what I frequently fail to see is my part (positive or negative),in the circumstances that bother me or others, and what I can do to about it. The fact that I am a victim of many things, is a list of things that I probably volunteered for n the first place.
