When I was a child and until I became an adult, I was so afraid of hospitals and seeing people in stretchers at the hospital, and the smell of the disinfectants, the whole hospital atmosphere, that I'd almost faint when I had to go into a hospital. I was wondering if this might be true for many Aspies, so I've designed this poll. Thanks in advance to anyone voting!

I chose afraid. I used to freak out when visiting my dad in hospital. No other member of my family did. I was really ashamed of it. I could barely take seeing my dad in a hospital bed. Although when he was moved into his own room it got a bit better. It could have been the cats in the ward though. They're supposed to be therapy companions for the sick, but instead they were my therapy to get over my fear.

Looking back at it now I think it was a sensory thing.

I'm terrified. But I'm afraid of a doctor or medical setting in general. I'm scared of getting a check-up is why.

I am not too comfortable with hospitals, but if I ever needed to go to one, I would not hesitate to go.Red Deer's hospital is a pretty good hospital

Five operations on my stomach and bowel, three operations on my nose (I used to get into fights), hospitals are no problem at all. My last operation was for a hernia and they did it using a LOCAL anesthetic, I was never knocked out. Whilst the surgeon operated behind a curtain I was swapping jokes with the anesthesiologist and the nurses.

Ive had several operations on my eyes when I was a small kid...NOT a fun thing for a kid.The anesthetic made me sick when I woke up and most of the recovery involved throwing up in a bedpan.

I chose other, I like hospitals or other medical situations, I like how they look and I like the chemical-ish smell. When I broke my arm at the age of 7 I stayed over night and I planned the day and I ticked all these boxes about what I wanted for dinner, and there was a teddy bears picnic and everything, so when I had to go home early I was really upset and cried all day, mostly because I'd planned the day out but also because I liked the hospital, I remember having fun being pushed on the wheely bed.

I chose 'terrified' because my fear of hospitals is so bad that I just scream the whole time I am in one. It doesnt help that my mum left me in an A+E by myself because she couldn't cope with me anymore. I was transferred into a mental health hospital and I screamed all day and all night long... I never want to go back to a hospital unless I am going to die otherwise.

I do not mind hospitals. But then, I am interested in medicine and becoming a doctor.

However, when I was a kid the smell was unbearable.

there are 2 reasons i fear the local hospital.

i see a crack in the main wall of my local 10 storey hospital and i am afraid that the building will collapse one day when i am in the vicinity.

there is unexpected traffic coming out of the hospital gates often. like ambulances that rush onto the road with their sirens blaring and they cause me to brake suddenly.

I'd like to go to hospital for a while, medicine is one of my special interests and seeing doctors work first hand sounds great! I'm terrified of needles, I faint anytime I get one. I was in a hospital a few months back visiting my sister who had severe glandular fever (tut tut), and the hospital was so...cavernous, the perfect place for an introvert to work :D

I am not afraid of hospitals. I spent a month in the hospital when I was 12 for an illness, and now I work in one.

I've never had a problem with them.
