And it seems I do have Asperger's. I've learned a few new things about myself and my cognitive profile and I've had several aha-moments. I also got additional diagnoses of Tourette's and trichotillomania, but I kind of saw that coming too. So there, I got my answer.

Basically, I'm really smart in some areas, mediocre in others, and I manage to come across as fairly normal by using my analytical and verbal skills to compensate for my lack of social intuition, all according to my specialist psychologist.

My brother wondered what you say to someone in my situation: congratulations? I guess there's no Hallmark-card for something like this.

:?

I'd say congratulations works. Just think of it as having solved a really tough puzzle.

Your situation sounds like mine; I can also appear normal.

Same. Just minus the Tourette's and that-word-I-have-no-chance-of-pronouncing-but-am-going-to-go-look-up-now.

Feels good though, doesn't it? To finally have that answer? And to find a group of people who are like you? Gawd, what a relief. I can feel the rush of it again just recalling it with you.

I hope you are happy with the new insight you gained.

Well, what can I say than I'm glad you've got to know yourself more (I mean with you knowing Asperger's.) Feels good to be different?

Same like you without the Tourettes and that other word you mentioned.

:lmao: I finally looked up that intimidating-word-none-of-us-wants-to-take-a-stab-at-writing-and-would-rather-replace-with-a-whole-lot-of-hyphenated-text. It's interesting... PAINFULLY interesting here. I can see the connection with Tourette's.

You mean "trichotillomania?"

Don't worry, I did not completely ruin your hypothesis, I used copy/paste. :D

Ah, yeah, trichotillomania was the curse of my teens and for a long time I thought if it wasn't for that I'd be perfectly alright socially. But of course it was just a convenient explanation at the time and really, although it still bothes me, I've learned to live with it.

Since I pull my eyelashes it's made my eye contact rather strange though, because I discovered early on that it's less noticeable if I don't look down, so I force myself to look people in the eye or stare into space instead...

I just realized that I often pull hair off my nostrils (coarse, isn't it) 8O

Does that count for trichotillomania?

Odd Finn: that would depend on why you do it, if the urge is too strong to resist, if you feel tension and anxiety before and relief afterwards....

Yes, that could describe it. Or perhaps it is just stimming?

yeah, I feel very similar things with my tics. some people think trichotillomania should be considered a complex motor tic, rather than an impulse control disorder.

well, I have no control over my trichtotillomania. I can postpone the pulling, but the urge is so strong it's usually only a matter of minutes before I have to pull. I try very hard sometimes to stop, but it seems to run its course and gets better or worse completely outside of my influence.

I think it lies in the nature and criteria of trichotillomania that its beyond one's control....
