Hi, I'm still on my long quest for a diagnosis (or not, which may be the case). I asked my mum lots of questions about my childhood to see if this could shed any light on it. I would be really interested to see what you guys say. Is this just normal child behaviour, or does it sound aspie like?

Thanks for reading, from Kerry.

1) At what age did I sleep through the night? About 5 months old.

2) Did I have recurrant nightmares? No.

3) Did I sleepwalk? A couple of times when I was 6/7.

4) Did I wet the bed? No.

5) Did I resist bedtimes? Sometimes needed company to go to sleep.

6) Did I get upset when regular patterns were disrupted? If mum went out.

7) Did I enjoy playing with the same toys for a very long time? Yes.

8) Did I like playing pretend games? Yes.

9) Did I enjoy playing alone for a very long time? Yes.

10) What age did I first walk? Around 1 year.

11) What age did I first talk? Before I walked.

12) What funny/embarrassing things did I do as a child? When I was about 5 whenever I did something naughty I would say 'it wasn't me, my brain told me to do it'.

13) Did I have a hard time learning new routines, like toilet training? No, but I hated doing poos in a potty and had to wear a nappy - I wouldn't let anyone see me do a poo, I would get really angry.

14) Did I seem sensitive to light or noise? I hated lots of people, especially when I didn't know them. E.g. I screamed throughout my Christening and I used to hate going on the bus and would scream.

15) Did I have trouble with hair washing or other elements of personal hygiene? I hated water going in my eyes.

16) How did I react when recieving presents? I loved them, but opened them quickly and then didn't show much interest in them. (I have a home video when I was about 6 showing me opening christmas presents, I open them and say things like 'my favourite.....what is it?' and then throw it to the side and rip open another present.

17) Was I socially outgoing? No.

18) Did I have a hard time making/keeping friends from a young age? I didn't talk about other children.

19) Did I really love certain toys or items? Yes, almost to an obsessive level.

20) Was I clingy at any point? Yes, very.

I don't think anybody can tell you if you have AS based on short little answers to fairly broad/standard questions like that.. You haven't even said why you do think that you have it.
Well, I mean, not that people on a forum can tell you for sure if you do or not anyways, but 20 questions about your childhood with not much more than yes/no answers isn't all that informative to begin with.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I'm not asking people to say whether they think I have AS or not, I know the answers are too short for that. I have posted before about why I think I have AS, but that's irrelevant. I just wanted people to say whether the characteristics mentioned could suggest AS or whether they are common childhood traits. I did try to get my mum to elaborate, but she didn't feel she could - I was frustrated by this, but was hoping what she did say would be at least a bit helpful.

Seriously, take some of the online tests. There are many aspie quizzes out there. Answer honestly as you can. I first took the test because I thought 2 of my friends were aspies, and we took the tests pretending to be them to see. Both have very surface aspie characteristics: one eccentric engineering genius inventor and one general know it all genius, both socially inept. They look very very aspie. But they scored only mildly so on the tests. I got curious, and took it as me, and scored very high. So I took some more, and then went and got formally tested. The formal tests rated me very high. I am barely eccentric and I'm a teacher. I just appear overly enthusiastic and someone who jumps across a million ideas before other people have even started to smell the coffee... BUT I have and always have had a whack of sensory issues and anxiety snafus that have plagued me, and a brain deformity (einstein did, so it is not that strange)... the tests separate the wheat from the chaff, delineating certain characteristics that can be shared by many people with neurological issues below that you can work on dealing with to improve the quality of your life. That's what I think anyway, and the literature seems to back me up on it. Good luck!
