Uhm.. if it seems like spam, ignore it. If it's someone random that seems 'ok' then just reply... if it's someone that seems creepy or asks weird things, reply as shortly as possible.

That's what I do anyway.

You should reply to all messages. Just don't simply ignore the. if you dont want to talk, then tell them, if they write you again, then you ignore them, that way you wont send the wrong message by ignoring them or replying. but dont simply ignore the message, cuz ow would you feel if you sent someone a message and they ignored yours?..so be generous and kind and say "i dont want to talk to you" or "do i know you" or something along those lines. You never know, these people may be interesting people, but simply ignoring the message, i wouldn't go that route because it's messed up, i dont like when people ignore me. but do what you want to do

I reply because I'm nice. If it's just spam or gibberish or I have nothing to say to the PM, I ignore it. I've had people PMing me asking me about Benny & Joon or Spokane. I love it.

If you got one about selective autism or similar, with a link at the end, its spam. Delete. The moderators are on it and trying to keep any more from going out.

I would suggest that anytime you get a message that seems to have an agenda behind it you can ask a moderator for an opinion. If someone is using this site to send pm's that are basically spam, we want to know about it and stop it.

Otherwise, most pm's are just friendly and worthy of a polite response. I'm not single so I don't know if the singles get more pm's from those looking for something more ... that might be more, well, complicated ;)

I reply to all my messages, because I am not so special to just simply ignore someone. But that's the type of world we live in. everyone is too selfcentered and selfish. But if it's gibbersh, like : ajghsjkgddgjhdghdg...then I would ignore it because the person is intentionally sending that, and if they can press the send button, then they know well enuff that it doesnt make sense

If it's spam, ignore it.
Sometimes people send messages about something you said in a thread, if they think it's more appropriate than saying it in the forum. Reply however you feel most comfortable.. if you don't want to talk about the topic, say so.
Sometimes I keep putting off replying to something because I'm not sure what I want to say, and then it gets to be too late..

you send them directly to the Mod team and they will investigate the issue :)

Click a name on the list below to begin writing a PM to that moderator or access the Moderator Attention thread.

Last Christmas I sent you a PM, but the very next day you deleted it away,

This year to save me from tears I give those pictures of me in a velvet thong to someone special..

How can you tell if someone deletes your PM? I know we can tell if our PM has been read but I am not sure if it stays in our unread inbox when the person just deletes it without opening it.

Private messages topic

I have gotten pms from people I do not "know", as I have never met anyone from WP.

I read the message and decide whether to respond. I do not write chats, if I do in fact send a pm.

Yes, they joined just to spam. WP has lots of these spammers over any certain day or night. I see them like meteors showers, most of them burn up in the atmosphere but sometimes they hit the ground. When PMed by someone that wants to use WP as their battle ground, please PM a mod, so we can take care of it for you.

Thanks!

Merle

If it isn't spam, assume the person is being nice.. but be prepared for the worst. :D

Generally if you respond positively, even if you're saying the negative, (ie: be nice when you turn people down), you could find a friend.

I've got a bit of a rule that says that I'm not allowed to be the person to let a friendship die... so usually I'll respond - unless I'm swamped.

If I have enough social fuel (even online, my supply is limited), I'll reply. If not, I'll try to reply, fail, and feel bad about making people think I'm ignoring them.
