I find it less and less intriguing. Whether it be paper form or on TV, it just doesn't suit my interest. Yeah, Bush is doing more to act against terrorism. Yeah, gas prices are rising up. And a resounding yes that Sharon's health is worsening. I miss the old days when the late Peter Jennings reported great and interesting news stories that weren't so plainly obvious and actually worth listening to.

They say no news is good news, but I do hear good news sometimes.

I don't have much faith in the news media I'm afraid. I find when I see the same story reported at multiple sources, I often find details that are contradictory. When I see this, I wonder "who is right if anyone?"

The fact that these days, may news sources report stories without completely checking them out just so they can be first also diminishes my faith in them. I saw alot of this during Hurricane Katrina.

You can't really trust any news source... I've known that for a long while now.

I tend to get my news from comedy shows like The Daily Show or The Colbert Report. At least they're honest about their bias, because they don't take themselves too seriously

Sad but the first time I heard CNN talk about something I actually knew a lot about, they got so many details wrong I was in shock. I never trusted news agencies again after that... when they lack an actual agenda, they just don't bother checking any of the facts apparently, so what's the point? It's more like opinion than news at that point.

No, it isn't. It is used as a tool to influence public opinion.

Incorrect. The media's goal is to make money. If influencing opinion doesn't make them money, they wont. If it does, they will.

Some media companies care only about money. Others don't care about money and exist merely to inform the pbulic. Most are usually a mixture of these two types of companies. You have the right to ignore the media sources you don't like and listen to the media sources you do like.

If none of the current sources of information suit your needs, you have the right to start your own company.

You also have the right to complain, but that doesn't really fix the problem.

In that case, we should remember the First Amendment.

Just don't say anything too "unpatriotic", of course:

Christ, they've got me scared now.

Dan, I know you were the co-founder of this site. Of course, I wouldn't say anything un-patriotic. I apologize if I made you unhappy for a second there.

Err, read the links he posted. He was being facetious.

I personally don't trust the media much at all. When they report on something I know about myself, it's alarmingly obvious how very little they themselves know. They seem to care more about peddling popular views and scaring people, frankly.
