I got this from another forum posted by someone and I thought one of them was the aspie but I got it wrong and it was the other person who was the aspie when I kept on reading. Now I'm curious to see what others say.

At work someone is working on the computer and another person is going around picking up trash. He comes to someone's office and the person is in the way and there is no way the person can get to the trash.

"The boss told me to take out the trash.".

"Yes, but could you please wait a moment because I'm right in the middle downloading something and I don't want to screw it up. Let me quickly finish this and then I'll get out of the way and let you get to my trash can."

"The boss told me to do it now"

"I know, but please just wait a moment"

"He told me to do it right now. He didn't say anything about waiting for anyone to finish what they are doing."

"I know, but I'm right in the middle of .....oh ****! ! Now look what you've made me do?! Couldn't you have waited?"

"The boss told me to take the trash out now."

Who do you think is the aspie, the trash picker upper or the person doing the downloading? Or would you say both of them have it?

lol, the person at the desk sounds exactly like me. :D

They both sound like they could be aspie, but the trash person seems more so because he's being very rigid. There are a lot of traits that make me think "some sort of nonverbal learning disability," but rigidity is one of only a couple I associate just with AS. I would peg the person at the desk as more likely ADD because I see hyperfocus as more of an ADD thing. YMMV. :)

Somebody needs to tell them both that when somebody is insisting on something and getting annoyed at them, it may be a sign that they need to re-analyze their level of flexibility, and the legitimacy of the other person's request. Not that this isn't the pot calling the kettle black, because I do that kind of thing often enough myself.

I'd say both could be Aspies. But more likely the one who's taking out the rubbish as he seems to get more stressed that he is unable to his task.

I would suggest the person with the trash just wait up. It is not like the trash will do weird stuff if you interupt its schedule, unlike the download. Hence on the basis that those with AS do not like their schedule being interrupted, I conclude that it is the download that has AS.

I went with both, as they both demonstrated a certain inflexibility. The downloader could have grabbed the trash himself, without having to move much, and handed it off the the collector. The collector could have gone to other offices while the download was working.

In my opinion the trash person sounds mentally impared. Possibly aspie, although more mentally impared than socially impared.

The computer person sounds normal to me. I don't really think stubbornness is a sign of aspergers.

Many times an NT has told me to wait while they finish doing something on the computer.
The trash collector just wants to do his job like he was told, and didn't think he'd have to wait for someone. I'm kinda that way when something happens when I don't expect it, but I wouldn't be that rude.

It doesn't take more than a few seconds to hand over the trash can so the person can empty it.
I probably would have told him that too. I don't see how he was rude.

Actually, I had the trash collector's job a couple of years back, only instead of trash, it was my job to open up the computer CPUs and blow the dust and lint out with a vacuum. I had to go through huge complexes that housed offices and warehouses for WalMart's distribution system. I absolutely hated it because of scenarios just like this - but - if someone was that busy (and they sometimes were), I cleaned elsewhere and came back (or checked it off as done and left it for next time). I wouldn't have considered arguing with someone over it. I was intruding in their space and their workday. I felt bad enough having to interrupt them at all. Some days I'd show up at one of those places, shuffle papers in my truck having an anxiety attack, and go home, rather than have to go through those immense places pestering strangers all day. :eew:

But in this story, the trash guy does seem a little cognitively impaired beyond just AS, and irrationally rigid. As was pointed out, how hard is it to reach under the desk and hand the wastebasket over? You could do that without even speaking, much less moving.

Bosses or co workers are usually clear in their instructions as they tell you to do things or train you. From my experience when they tell me to do something they tell me about other workers too and to wait for them, same as with guests. Like wait till the guests are out of the restroom before I clean it and make sure no one is in there.
It sounds more reasonable to wait till the person is done using their computer before you clean it out because it takes longer to do. If I were trained to do that too I would be told if someone is using it, wait till they are finished and come back to it later and see if they are done. Bosses or trainers are usually that clear.

Maybe that person was in the way the person was unable to get to the trash so he told him he had to get it and the man refused to move when he could have rolled his chair aside. It sounds unreasonable to me to not hand over the trash or move aside so the person can get to it. Unless the boss or trainer told me if someone is in the way, wait till they are finished and then come back, I will follow through with that and wait. I would tell the person I'll come back later.

Unless I'm mistaken, you usually don't need to be at your desk for a download. They tend to take care of themselves without a whole lot of intervention.

It sounds like the trash collector was just trying to do his job. He saw the computer guy wasn't busy, and asked for access to the trash can. Out of nowhere the guy at the computer becomes an uncooperative douche.

That's definitely NT behavior, so I'm going with the trash guy by process of elimination.

Both of them seem to be Autistic. Aspies have lots in common and are verry different at the same time.
