Does anybody know what these tests are, and where/how to get them?

Cognitive evaluation
Adaptive functioning evaluation

I've got my Asperger's Dx (at length, in writing) and now I'm applying to be "in the system" for occupation therapy etc. They say they need these 2 tests to evaluate my eligibility. Any ideas what to do now?

Just my guess, because for the costs of therapy there is a cognitive evaluation needed where I live.

And that's just a plain IQ test. Actually here it just about whether the IQ score is at least average or below 70.

Oh and funny enough, anyone autistic above age 21 who scores in the average range does not exist according to the law. Nobody pays for them, they're nowhere mentioned, they just plainly don't exist on paper in my country.

Adaptive functioning sounds like a throughout examination on how much help they think you need. Or in other words, I think that sounds as if they'd test how much you can do yourself (according to them).

Good luck for that process anyway!

I'd go to a psychologist to get both. Cognitive is an IQ Test. Adaptive behavior is usually measured by a rating scale and it assesses things like self help and self care skills. (how well one has adapted to the environment.) I don't know why they need this info for OT? When you say in the system, which system do you mean? I know a lot about eligibility in school systems, but that's about it.

There shouldn't be any cost since your living in Canada, try calling Canadian Mental Health, or though your local psychiatric unit at most of the larger hospitals, I had both my Cognitive evaluation and Adaptive functioning evaluation done at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton

Guess what! The tests are done and I got the results last week. (Note the dates above.) A mere 15 months of waiting. And I found the person to administer the tests myself, after I gave up on "the usual suspects" - and it cost me $600. And that was with a discount.

Here is what really bugs me - that's time out of my life. Time that could have been improved with the results of those tests. And that's in addition to the 2 years it took to get a Dx. So my path to being helped (I know not how) is now more than 3 years long.

And of course, the women who will put things in motion is on vacation until September. I really hate pretending I don't mind! :x

That sucks. :( But I am glad the assessment has got this far. I think in time all the tests and details will be sorted.

the waiting times in Canada for health care are insane...no wonder so many Canadians opt to go to the US for treatment and such.
