Since I was a child my brain would keep thinking about things and not let me sleep at night.
I have been taking Chlorpromazine which works very well and it also helps with anxiety, I also know someone with AS who takes Risperidone.

I had side effects from risperidone so it didn't help me sleep, but yeah I've had sleep problems since I was a kid, too. now I take ambien and valium at night (in dosages recommended by my shrink) and it's working great. I've never slept so well, even though my sleep patterns are still a bit erratic.

I, very much, have this issue when I am absorbed with a problem. My wife, knowing of this and kept awake by my "fidgeting" in bed, will routinely roll over and say "Shut it off", which, of course, I can't.

My brain used to do that, when I was trying to figure out important things, but now I can sleep and still figure out important things tomorrow; it's not like I'm missing something anymore and need to spend all my time searching for it, it's not like it's urgent and my very soul depends upon it. However, often, just when I'm starting to relax (maybe because I'm starting to relax) I think of something I need to write down, and then I have to get up and write it down (or risk forgetting about it, which I usually do if I don't write it down, and usually I never remember it again). Then when I go back to bed I am unable to relax again. I just fall asleep but am not relaxed.

Yup. I've always had troubles sleeping. Yet, every night, I just keep thinking and thinking and thinking, that's one of the ways which many of my ideas for ff come from, actually.

I get this problem from time to time, where by brain keeps whirring on a problem, turning it over and over in my head. It helps me to have at least 20-30 minutes of "down time" before I attempt to go to bed if I've been contemplating something obsessively. Sometimes it works. :)

Yes, it does! It's been a problem for ages now, but it's gotten bad enough where I now have to take Klonopin to help my mind "shut off" at night.

I've tried some herbal remedies (melatonin and valerian), but they just didn't cut it for me. Falling asleep to calming music sometimes helps, but it's hit or miss.

Talking about sleeping, anyone here unable to go to sleep staying still? In order to sleep, I must 'rock' myself to sleep. Moving my feet, legs, arms back and forth, just...feeling the bed move?

Sometimes. I'll get really into thinking about something and thoughts and ideas will be coming at me at the speed of sound. No use even trying to sleep then.

My brain will NOT SHUT UP ever. I'm being constantly bombarded with thoughts around the clock. With any luck, I'll be getting Risperdal in 2 weeks.

YES YES YES. My brain NEVER shuts up and at night it can be worse thus keeping me awake. There are times I lie awake at night for HOURS with my brain going 100 mph with different strains of thought going at once. I also will get more than one song in my head and they play at the same time which is awful. Racing racing racing thoughts.

This has been one of my biggest problems for my entire life. Luckily for me, I function pretty well on low sleep.

I also function well on no sleep caused by rapid thoughts. I wish I could slow it down or stop it. I always laugh when people tell me to "stop thinking." If they only knew the half of it... If I could only remember half of it...

Yes! I have had bad insomnia for years now. It's really hot here right now, and that doesn't help either.
