My therapist did some cognitive assessment tests on me and she says it's "usual" for someone with Asperger's to have high verbal ability and low shapes ability.

Q. What is shapes ability? Whatever it is, I don't have much of it. I bet it means I'll never be a chess master.

Q. All you math wizards and prime number aficionados, does that have anything to do with shapes?

Q. If you picked Other, what is the Other?

What do you mean by shapes? Like, visual stuff, spacial stuff, that kind of thing?

I'm very good at shape things at some things, but not all things. I have much difficulty in some of those spatial tests, but well in others.

Verbal commands and instructions? Reading/comprehension? Is that what you mean? Apparently I'm horribly low in comprehension at times, but I can read very very well. I just don't retain what I read, or misinterpret what I have read a lot of the time. As far as verbal directions, don't even bother trying with me, lol.

Probably means your skills aren't suited for a visual artist, designer, interior decorator, etc.; probably means you don't have neat handwriting, read graphs well, or think in pictures. Could have an effect on how well you can turn images around in your head, sketch something you see, and visualize things in your head.

Only once you get to geometry and calculus. Math is more of a verbal-oriented skill for most people, though some people think of numbers visually. I think of numbers that way, but I started out behind in math as a kid and only caught up once they stopped focusing on memorizing number facts and started letting us work with logic.[/quote]

Spacial stuff, must be. I'm not sure.

There's a book Searching for Bobby Orr (hockey superstar) that mentions that, at home, he places jigsaw puzzle parts very fast - I'm guessing that's a "shapes" skill, which leads me to think that play-making is a shapes skill?

I guess she means non-verbal or performance ability (eg. block design, picture arrangement, etc.). This is one half of IQ score, the othe rhalf is verbal IQ (math, vocabulary, etc.). My verbal IQ is withint he gifted range. My non-verbal IQ can't be measured cause I'm blind.
