Im a masters student studying fashion design and im really interested in integrating technology into clothing in a meaningful way to help people with aspergers. So im here to ask you guys for suggestions. Would you be interested in garments that could detect emotions and emotional responses , would it make it easier for your friends and family to wear such devices - they could even illuminate in different colours for different responses etc. anger = red, fear = blue. would that imagery make emotional interaction easier for you?

There is a world of possibility but I want to know what aspie's think about this? Thanks for all Input!

The other issue for me, is that very few of my friends and relatives are aware that I have AS, mostly I just try to hide it and pretend to be normal, if a bit eccentric :D

Intelligent clothing, such as what CMU is working on, is something I look forward to. An embedded system that could help detect people's emotions would be a fascinating technology to try on and try out.

Hehe, yeah, my sense of direction is diabolical!

It would be nice to know what other people are feeling but I just wouldn't want them to know anything about me...

Bring back Mood Rings. I'm a child of the 70's and I loved those things. They changed color depending on what a person was feeling (or at least according to how the temperature of their skin changed) and for about 2 years, you could tell the mood (or at least the skin tempurature) of people all around you. They came with a little color chart to show you what color correlated with what mood. Then they disappeared. You could update them, incorporate them into more than just rings, and bring them back. (There was Mood Underwear too but I thought that was creepy.)

wow interesting responses, esp mood rings!

as for DS GPS and other "gadgets", lots of companies are working on stuff like that but id like to think about things from a poetic, conceptual and meaningful way.

people not wanting to reveal their emotions is true for neuro typical's to as with gadgets etc, but as someone who has a unique perspective IE aspergers what emotional issues do you face and how could technology help to over come them? Do you find it hard to interpret emotions? your? or others? If you could have an image/colour/ or light that helped to decipher what people were thinking would it help you?

Don't forget to have no clothes tag on them

Personally, I'd just like to be able to tell the temperature from looking at my clothes :D Or better yet, my heart rate

This is so tricky. I just don't know how I would use technology to help me emotionally. My emotional development is so poor that often I can't tell what other people are feeling but also I find it really difficult to express how I am feeling.

Like how would the clothes detect emotions?

And also would it be able to detect my emotions because most of the time I don't really feel that much anyway?

Sam :) x

You need to learn Arduino programming to embed electronics into clothing: http://www.arduino.cc/

I'm also really into Technology in Fashion & Design. I just made this for the Big Idea on the Maker & 3D print movemement:

I already know a little arduino stuff, i used the arduino lillypad in a previous project.

Im still trying to figure out how the sensors would detect the emotions but for now i want to imagine the ways to make it happen and figure out the techy stuff after. Its more a question of ways to help people, give them a visual tool i guess.
