Example what was meant to be a simple yes/no (are the kids being good?) Well 1 did this the other did that and they misbehaved so no they haven't been good. Does anyone else give long drawn out answers instead of simple yes/no ones? (I have a feeling I've asked this question itself here in some form so forgive me because I've forgotten LOL!)

I have the opposite problem. My boss asks me yes/no questions, which I answer exactly. I have no clue that he wants more information, unless he specifically asks me.

Yes (the short answer)

"You haven't answered the question I asked" is another favourite. "I was concerned to fill in the background because I couldn't come up with an exact answer to the question you asked" doesn't seem to cut it as an explanation.

LOL! Great! There's not a day goes by (now adays lately anyway LOL!) that I don't have some behavior and come to WP and either A) WP people did that as children or B) It's part of people on the Spectrum (YA I learn something new!! !!) Thanks WP Members. :-)

Plesae explain how going into a little detail when asked a question is "on the spectrum"?

In my case, an NT expects me to just know to give detail. 8O

lol, YES.

sometimes it's like i just can't help being thorough and detailed when all that was required was a simple answer.
and i have to constantly remind myself. but the normal way of thinking just goes against the grain for me. trying to put myself in their way of thinking feels unnatural

Yep exactly me. :-) LOL! also aspieconfirmed I'm not sure but let me rephrase that either they did it as children or do that now as an adult. (spectrum or not) I find alot of my behavior questions being answered here on WP that hey I did/do that too which IMO is comforting to me. It doesn't neccasarily have to be a trait or anything but people here saying they did X and my NT parents finding issues with my behavior it MUST be something based around being on the Spectrum that's my opinion anyway sorry if I offended you or anyone here. :-)

It depends on the situation and my mood. I either give way too much information and go on and on about something that requires a simple answer... Or just say "yes" or "no" to something when people were apparently expecting more information that i didn't think was need. :? Humans....

Depends on the question. Some job questionnaires ask some really absurd things like, "are you through being a troublemaker?" or "do you enjoy taking orders?" I've never been a troublemaker, so how do I answer that? Either a yes or a no would be confirming your guilt, and I'm not about to admit to something that isn't true.

Q & A topic

Sometimes I do not like giving aswers to basic questions. I do not know what people want.

If it involves something interesting, I can talk all day.

From one extreme to another. :)

I must say that I find it rather ironic.... I read the post title "Do you have a problem answering basic questions?" ...and I automatically started thinking "Well it depends on what the question is, the context of it, etc."

So I'm assuming that the answer would be a yes, because I couldn't even answer THAT question without thinking of possibilities of what a "basic" question would be, lol.

Yeah. I remember one time I was filling out a form for employment at a local comic shop. One question literally had one word of the two-word answer in the question itself. One of those times where the answer seems so simple that I think, "It can't possibly be that easy. I'm oversimplifying things." Only you don't really think that, it's just an instant impression you get.

YES! One time, I was going through a screen test for dyslexia and the questions were so vague, so it took me ages to understand the question and then it took me ages to explain my answer.
