Why don't we all chip in some money to help this guy get back on his feet?

No one likes a homeless aspie

I could make a thread saying I'm homeless too, it means nothing.

I have nothing against that member, of course, but you never know if someone online is telling the truth when it comes to stuff like this.

Besides, from what I hear, the last member to do this kind of thing was indeed scamming other members out of their money.

I have occasionally sent PMs to people where I thought some assistance might be appropriate and appreciated, and anyone at all could certainly do the same here.

I will never make an online contribution to anyone/anything again.

I sent a WP member some money a few months ago and I still don't know if my contribution was used for it's stated intention.

I only have $200.00 to my name right now anyway. :(

How are you going to know that he is really that bad off? On the Internet you can write anything...

If you want to do any good deeds, I'd say to stick to the people you know in person.
That hasn't anything to do with being coldhearted, it's just about knowing whether your money is really used for that purpose that you intended.

You might give some homeless guy a new chance, or you might give some smart @$$ easily earned money.
But you never know.

Well....this guy never asked anyone for help for one thing, he has been posting here for years. He always uses computers at the public library, so his posts are usually very short. Sure he could still be a scammer, but I doubt it. Based upon what he writes, he is in a very bad situation and I really do feel for him. I wish I could help, but i'm a step away from homelessness myself. If not for my very generous, patient and understanding family, I would've been on the streets years ago myself.

I told him he might want to consider moving to Key West, Florida if he could scare up enough money for the trip. I live about 150 miles from Key West and it's not the worst place in the country to be homeless. I was homeless there for about a month two summers ago. Needless to say, it was extremely hot/humid and difficult to sleep. I would sleep on the beach in early morning hours when it was relatively cool. Then I would wake up and take a shower on Higgs beach, the public beach that most of the homeless people congregate on. Nobody really bothered me and I had a car. I had some money and a job too, but I wasn't making enough to afford a place by myself in Key West (you can rent a glorified outhouse in Key West for around $1000.00 per month.) I stayed on a friend's sailboat too for another month and that was actually sort of a cool experience. He was out of town and I had the boat all to myself for the whole month. It was docked right by the store I worked at, so I could just tumble out of bed and walk to work in two minutes. I had air conditioning on the boat too, so that was a welcome change. In the summer months, even the nighttime lows in Key West rarely fall below 80 degrees F and the humidity is just monstrous. Still....i'd rather contend with the equatorial heat than the bone-chilling crap you'll encounter in most other parts of the US. The temps are comparatively pleasant in Key West from Nov-Apr and it can even get a little cold on some winter nights. There is no recorded temp of less than 40 degrees F in Key West though and IMO, that's alot better than being on the streets in NYC or Chicago when it's -20 on some winter nights.

At any rate....the authorities and locals are pretty tolerant of the homeless there. While homelessness is not a tiptoe through the tulips for most people no matter where you're at, i'd rather be homeless in a place like Key West than a big crime-ridden city like Miami or worse yet, a COLDER big crime-ridden city like San Francisco or New York. I believe the poster in question is in San Francisco or somewhere close by. I know alot of people in Key West as well, so I might even be able to hook him up with a job too if he's able to work at all. I wouldn't be able to promise anything in that respect, but at least he might have a chance of obtaining an income through work and possibly, getting a place of his own even if it meant sharing something with a roommate or two.

I guess he can't afford the trip right now even if he wanted to give Key West a shot. I really can't help him in that regard right now, but maybe some other posters might be able and willing to. Idk if it would even be a viable option for him in the first place. It sounds like it might mean he would have to pick up roots in California and start from scratch in an unfamiliar state and town.

It's very disturbing that thousands, if not millions, of people with a legitimate disability must live on the streets in the wealthiest nation on Earth. The superfluous, predatory greed and the mindless hedonistic nihilism in American society is at the root of most the societal ills we face in this very sick, uncivilized and immoral nation.

No place like home topic

There is a member here who has continued to post despite the controversy about money he received by well meaning people. He has a nerve. :x

The member in the link above has problems with advice he has been given. At this stage in his homelessness he is confused and his communication is rambly. I suggested a few ideas and he ignored them. Others had even better advice.

But it is much better for me at least to err on the side of caution: People on the Internet are not your friends, and Mr. P is still posting, so this means he is still not that desperate yet. Perhaps tomorrow.....

I've had less than $1 in my bank account for the past week & even if I had the money, I wouldn't do anything like that because I have no idea who it's actually going to or what the money's actually going to be used for. There are too many liars & scammers online.

Even if this is for real or just a scam after I pay my bills with my unemployment payments I barely have enough for me. If it was not for my parents I would be on the street as well. :(

I would love to but after hearing scamming and it all broke lose to the point where WP literally dragged my name into this and I honestly don't want to go through it again and mess up my head more than it already is, im practically close enough to have a breakdown if I'm not careful.

Half of it is personal experience.
