Earlier today, two young men dressed in gray and black uniforms came to my apartment and told me I need to register as having Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. They said they were from a group called the SG; their uniforms consisted of gray button shirts and black pants, to anyone has seen this uniform before. I asked them why I would need to register, and they told me it was because it would make things better for everyone. I don't see how that can be because I never heard of the SG before, so I don't think they can be helping anyone; maybe they help Autistic people or people with Asperger's Syndrome. I haven't been diagnosed as Autistic, but I have told some people I know well and it's possible they know people who work for the SG. I did tell the men from the SG that I have not been diagnosed, but they said that I should get diagnosed as soon as possible and if I did not want to get a diagnoses, that I should register anyway and they would assume I have Asperger's Syndrome. They left me a form with the place to turn it into and a business card. I'm assuming "Protection Group" is what SG stands for. I'm in a real conflict over what to do because if these people can help me, I don't want to throw away their help, but I've also never heard of them before and I don't know if I should trust them. My main fear is that this is some kind of marketing thing like an extended warrenty; BTW, never buy one becuase it's most likely a waste of money. What do you think? Should I register or not? I'm definately getting a diagnoses if I decide to register.

No, you should not. In fact, you should probably talk to the police. They look rather suspicious, from your description.

The "it would make things better for everyone" part sounds like a rather shifty choice of words.

I agree with Urchin about calling the police.. that sounds really, really suspicious!
What's on the forms?

"I'm assuming "Protection Group" is what SG stands for."

...wait, what? (Like, in German?)

And... lolWOW, I've never heard of something like that before. They came right to your door? And said that you should register and they'd ASSUME you had AS? From what I've heard, it's usually hard to convince people you have it, or that it's even a legit condition. This sounds fish-licious. :nemo: Like there are sneaky motives at work. They wouldn't just give you the benifit of the doubt like that.
I would probably just not do anything. Maybe wait for them to make another move or something. See what happens. And do more research, too. Do they have a website or anything?

That's a terrifying story! Contact the police immediately. If this were a legitimate Social or Government Agency, surely you would have heard of them before. I'd rather be visited by the Men In Black, than some creepy uniformed drones telling me I had to 'register' my autism. What's next, a serial number tattooed on your wrist?

I'm having an anxiety attack just thinking about it and I'm half a world away from where you are. :shaking:  :shaking:

At the very LEAST, there's a SCAM afoot. Tell the authorities.

Yes, please tell us what happens, this is a very intriguing mystery if nothing else.

Wow, do NOT give them ANY personal information until you contact the police or get some independent verification of who they are.

If they were salesmen, I'd think they'd make it clear what they were selling. The line "it's better for everybody" makes me wonder if they're some sort of "neighborhood watch" organization that knows nothing about AS than it's a psych dx, and "therefore a danger to the normal people." Or maybe cultists or kidnappers. God only knows.

I'm not that worried about the SG; I've occasionally seen people wearing their uniform walking aroung in pairs, so they're probably pretty pubic and I doubt that they're suspicious at all. If they were running a scam, I doubt they'd be making themselves well known. I also don't think they would give me a business card with their information if they were not a good group. I did take you advice seriously, and I've been contacting the people I know. Apperently one of them went to high school with some of the people involved in the SG. She told one of their members that I might have Asperger's Syndrome after I told her. I've also found out their leader is a woman named Anna Konig. so I'm going to contact her right now. From what my friend told me about the SG, they are encuraging peace and tolerance and other good values. They also have an interest in Autistic people and want a peaceful coexistance with us. I'm still looking into this though. One of my friends is a police officer, so I'll ask him if he knows anything about the SG.

Sounds like a plan.
Just FYI, they could have given you fake info on the card, you know. But there's probably no sense getting too worried, (since you got so many worrisome replies in this thread.. but you don't seem to be worried) just being careful is usually sufficient if you don't want to get scammed.
Anyway, are they asking for money or anything? It'll be cool if they really turn out to be a nice non-profit organization promoting peace or something.

Man, that's weird as all %$#@. If those guys came to my door with that 'it'll be better for everyone...' garbage they'd have about 3 seconds to apologize and explain themselves before I opened fire.

I'm so glad I don't own a gun. I'd do stuff like that all the time. =)

Are you f’n kidding me? What the f. kind of statement is that? That’s the kind of statement one would make before entering a village of cannibals. Either they are planing on “eating” you or they think you might “eat” them, so to speak. In either case it’s perverted. I wouldn’t care what their “intentions” are I would tell them to take a hike.

I'm glad you think I have a good plan; I thought I did.

It occured to me that maybe there could be something funny with their card, but I wasn't worried about it. The card does say that their leader is Reinhard Weinstein even though I was told it's Anna Konig, but it's probably just a regional thing since the SG originated in Essen. Anna could be the leader in Essen and Reinhard could have been appointed after expanding into the where I live.

I agree with what you say about just being careful being enough; I can't think of any case where it hasn't.

They haven't asked me for any money at all, so they're probably good people; they might just be scientists doing an experiment. I hope they turn out to be a Autism help group; the only thing that makes me think otherwise is how readily they'll accept me as Autistic. A non Autistic person could take advantage of such genorocity. I'm definately contacting Anna and finding out about the group.

To be a little blunt, "better for everyone" sounds like some kind of neo-naziism. It's entirely that they either claim to from SG but really aren't, or are from a different SG that purposefully uses the same initials. Bottom line, don't trust them. And yes, police sounds like a good idea.

In addition to contacting the police and any local, regional, or national organization in Germany that would have information about this SG group, why not google them? If they and their organization are at all legit, they'll have a Web presence. If they are up to something sneaky or sinister, you are likely not their first target, so someone else has probably written about their experience on a blog, forum, or wherever.

I know German culture and society is different from the U.S.'s, but this still sounds very peculiar. Keep a copy of their form and business card, and check everything about them before you give them any information.

I would definitely look more into this. I'm not going to be able to find much on my own with the initials SG. You should definitely make sure they're legit before you give them any information, and definitely keep the police contact numbers handy.

Plus, the phrase 'It would be better for everyone' sounds a lot like intimidation, as if they'll follow that up with threats if you don't comply. Definitely read up more about them, and keep the police numbers handy.
