Is anyone here familiar with the "Indigo phenomenon"?

I haven't been diagnosed as AS but identify strongly & it explains so much.
The tests say I'm "very likely" aspie. But I've recently become aware of the
Indigo Children thing & was amazed how it resonates with me (except some of
the spiritual/other-worldly aspects).

The characteristics & traits of both (Aspie/Indigo) seem so much alike, and Indigos
have often been diagnosed with AS, ADD, ADHD & more. So I'm just wondering if
others here have any experience and/or thoughts on the Indigo thing.

Oh, and for what it's worth, I'm really not looking for a box or label... I've always
felt like a stranger in this world, but am finally getting OK with it.

It's too difficult to separate.

Also, I think that because not much was known about AS until comparatively recently, some people may have thought that AS was ADHD. (I thought that I had ADHD until I found out that I had AS). Also sub-clinical AS, would account for kids who have traits of AS but are also gifted.

I guess I'm quite an indigo kid as I'm really talented with computers, and an independent thinker, and my Mum never took me to the doctors when I was little because she didn't want me to be labelled.

But... AS never goes away and I ended up seeking help myself in the end! :colors:

same here(learn to program by myself to the point i can get a job almost anywhere i like and lived very independent life and since childhood i've spent most of my time asking question about existence and such)
except i never looked for help
at least not professional help(i hate them)
looked the term up in Wikipedia and the description fits me
but indigo just another label
not much better than AS
i need much more detailed and concrete knowledge about me
and what the pro's say about AS strike me as horse-sheet

Weeell.... Not really. I would say rather that indigo children are so commonplace that nearly every child could be one. The way they are described is so very general that it could fit just about anyone you thought of; it's a lot like a horoscope that way.

The "special destiny" thing, sure, that doesn't exist; but what they're describing when they say "indigo child" seems like something that could describe just about any child, anywhere. People like to think their children are special, and that's fine; the only problem is they think they have to declare their child better than other children somehow, instead of, as they should, simply taking their children for who they are without comparing them to anybody.

No. The whole indigo thing was simply made up by parents in the New Age movement who couldn't deal with the fact that there might be something "wrong" with their kids or want their kids to be special.

The Truth About Indigo Children and Starseeds <-link

I did kind of support this idea years ago when I was about 14 and went as far as to set up a website about it for some other kids my age I knew from another forum who thought that they must be indigos because they didn't feel like they fit in with anyone else (except with other "indigos") and felt like they were more spiritually advanced than everyone else, but all it did was encourage already antisocial kids to act even more antisocial and develop a superiority complex. There was also another interpretation of this same basic idea, in which they called themselves "Starseeds" and claimed to be reincarnated from another planet, possibly in another dimension (Indigos usually claim to be reincarnated from a higher dimension are only here to help raise Earth's consciousness or some such New Age BS), and these people eventually started using the term interchangeably, which is why I mentioned both in the article I linked to.

I think if someone is really that spiritually advanced, they wouldn't feel the need to give themselves a label and go on the internet talking about how much better they are than everyone else. Just my opinion.

So it seems as if Indigo is like a non-scientific denial of AS?

Jenny McCarthy was really into that stuff before started blaming vaccinations and toxins for autism. She claimed her son was an Indigo and she was something equally corny, like a Crystal or something. I remember the Indigos supposedly didn't speak much because they were telepathic, an evolved life-form who didn't need words to connect to others blaha blaha....
