How much do you talk?

Just curious... I have a feeling aspies and auties tend to go to both extremes when it comes to how much or little we talk and I'm just curious about how many of us fall into each category. I know it probably varies depending on situation/who you're around - just vote according to what you're like the majority of the time. As for me I'm very quiet IRL, don't talk much at all.

By 'NT-standards' too little. I don't socialize that often, and don't talk too much to myself (as opposed to thinking in myself.).

In person or online? That makes a MASSIVE difference.

To myself or to other people? That makes a big difference for me.

As a child, I quickly discovered that I was rubbish at talking. I couldn't initiate conversations, didn't have anything in common with kids my age and didn't know what to say to people who spoke to me and could only manage 'yes' or 'no' answers.

As an adult, I'm still rubbish at conversation, so I don't talk if I can get away with it. At work I have a small circle of friends that I can talk to without feeling awkward. (I let them do most of the talking)

One thing I have noticed. As a child if you're quiet and don't say much, other people think you're just 'shy', but as an adult, other people think you're ignoring them.

Hello Mr. Above Poster, you've articulated very well the problems I face as an adult . I could get away with being shy and polite as a child, spoken only when spoken to. As an adult, people think I'm an ass.

I don't speak much. I'm 45. I get the feeling it's when I do speak that people think I'm an ass. When I'm quiet I feel they think I'm a serial killer...

i can talk the hind leg off a donkey. and do, frequently. i pity anyone who asks me anything...

I don't talk much unless I have too. Online I talk more than in person. With family or friends I talk more only when I think it is needed in the end.

That doesnt, however, prevent me from keeping quiet in situations that call for it.

I get on a roll and I can talk for hours. Other times my exchanges can be taken to be far too short (and that includes non-existent).

When I'm not anxious, I always talk way too much. When I'm anxious, I don't talk much at all.

So, I usually talk too much.

I talk way, way, way, too much.

I put "a normal amount" because I alternate between not shutting up at all and barely talking at all. It depends on the topic on conversation and my current mood; me barely talking at all might not be a bad/submissive thing, I might just be trying to listen. me talking a lot is of course rarely justifiable and I should try to cut back.

I voted for too little.. because i'm well aware no-one is interested in litstening to me talk about my obsessions.

I also tend to think more before I say things these days.

I hardly ever talk. Writing is my preferred method of communication, even at home, especially when trying to explain how I feel. But no matter where I am, if I am excited about something (and I am usually either excited or sullen--no inbetween, really), I will talk to anyone and everyone about whatever it is I'm excited about.
