... given someone the diagnostic criteria and asked them if you have Autism? Just curious. I did, and they didn't seem to think I'm an Aspie.

Hey, armchair diagnosis I know. But science, like politics, is too important to be left to the proffessionals.

I've never bothered to tell them I have anything but they always think I have something, they can't figure out what. I wouldn't go up to anyone and single myself out because I was singled out in school and often left very surpised, unsure of how to react and speechless so I stopped paying attention. It upsetted me later.
At my school, everyone wanted to fit in and be like everyone else, so the comformity level was high. Everyone seemed to have their own friends except a few of us who were in trouble all the time. Even the mean ones seemed to have friends and could get away with being mean so long as they had them. There were quite a few kids who were mean on a routine basis but this didn't stop them from accumulating members of their own pack.
Then there were a few kids, like me, who everyone hated no matter what and it was considered a social taboo to befriend us. We were harrassed on a daily basis and considered the lowest of the low. Most of us were pretty nice, we just weren't liked because of behaviours that were considered odd and we became the target of rumors. I remember two kids, they were both boys, who were in the same boat as me and tried to befriend me but I always ran from them and refused to talk to them.

Please, please, please don't go off topic. Everytime someone does a post like that the OP seems to be ignored.

My post wasn't off topic. You asked if anyone has ever given a list to someone else containing diagnostic criteria and I answered the question and then I explained it. That's not off topic.

But peoples responses were likely to be.

Besides, that's more of a rant than an explanation.

It's not a rant at all. It's reality for more people than you realize. That is a true representation of my reality and why I choose not to talk autism with people I meet irl.

But this isn't.the.topic.to.discuss.it, so it is off.topic.

It's not offtopic. If it were about tea pots it might be but it isn't. It's just one answer out of many answers that could all be completely different. If others choose not to answer it isn't my fault so don't blame me.

This part doesn't add anything to your answer, and on it's own, is completely irrelavent.

Besides, my post was directed at the people who would respond to your post and ignore the OP. Not you.

Your topic question is completely subjective. My post supports my answer. It is NO. You asked "Have you ever?" and my answer is No. Then I explained why. You must disagree with my answer, that is fine. I stand by the facts. My post is not irrelevent or off topic either one. Now, good day.

I understand what you mean. However, I was asking if you ever had, not asking for a long list of why.

Anyone else want to answer the question?

ok, I will answer the question and attempt to stay "on topic".

No. For me it was the other way around.
I had someone hand me the criteria and tell me they thought I had Asperger's Syndrome.
I looked it over, and more or less agreed with them. Thus was my introduction into the world of Autism.

I have, but it really just depends on who you hand it to.

People who want to figure out why you are different would be more likely to agree than those who prefer to think you are just lazy/nerdy/whatnot.

Not exactly, but as my signature says, 3 of my friends came to the conclusion that I was probably on the autism spectrum without me saying anything about it. I don't know whether or not any of them referred to the diagnostic criteria in deciding or not. One told me they'd come to this conclusion, and I discussed it with the other two and discovered they'd come to the same conclusion but hadn't intended to tell me.

Quite recently I read out the AS diagnostics criteria from Wikipedia to my mom, asking if she had association of any sort who it could be about. Her answer was short and simple – “You”. She basically admits I have some neurological condition, she can’t deny this any more but I don’t let her know it’s AS because “my daughter isn’t autistic, autistic people are like vegetables and she is a normal, smart person.”
