I have been away from WrongPlanet for one whole month. I did not plan on coming back. But something happened today that made me realize I need WrongPlanet. I have spent thousands of dollars in the past on things like Christmas trees (I had 35 trees up in the house several years ago), railroad models (200 or so expensive HO scale models), blueprints, etc. But, for the near year that I have belonged to WrongPlanet, my spending on such interests has diminished. After I left WrongPlanet last month, my desire to buy things increased---but I did not give in. Today, at Lowe's, I nearly bought an animated witch to add to my vast collection of Halloween decorations. But, they had sold the last witch. Then, I went to the Christmas decorations and nearly bought some Christmas house miniatures. I made myself walk out of the store before I spent money on them. I now realize that WrongPlanet is an interest that can help me steer away from expensive habits. Anyway, I am back---though I may not always post with the intensity that I did at times in the past.

Let me be the first to welcome you back!

My personal passion for following Wrong Planet has diminished quite a bit as I feel I have come to several conclusions about myself. So I'm not posting nearly as much as I used to, though I still follow intermittently. I will probably always hang out here at some level.

Oh, no, buying lots of expensive crap to fill in the gaps is not the way to go. Have you seen Fight Club? No, I'm not recommending that you go and start a fight club, it's just an interesting movie to see for the themes it explores. Things like how they make soap and sell it back to all the rich women, if only they knew!

Thank you all for your welcoming me back. I never thought I would come back. But, here I am. But I am going to try to not be so obsessive about checking posts every few minutes and so forth. I think that is a lot of where my stress came from with it. This has been a very educating year for me. It was about a year ago that I was diagnosed with AS. And, just about two months ago, my youngest son has been diagnosed with AS too and is in the process of getting an IEP at his school. So it's been quite a year. I believe I will look at WP a little differently now---not so much with my theories in positive thinking (though I will still do that), but in the need for support that WP can help me with (like with my son). I should have seen how obviously AS he is. The school knew it well before I did.

To Sgrannel---I haven't seen Fight Club, but I will watch it next time I see that it's on. As for buying expensive crap as you put it, I was proud that I walked away from buying anything yesterday at Lowe's. That did me good. Like you said, it isn't the way to go to fill in the gaps.

Wow, I didn't think anyone in the world had the kind of year I've had, but it looks like you have. DS #1 was diagnosed in January, I was diagnosed in March, and DS #2 is on the waiting list for an eval. Not too stressful!

Welcome back. I am here again ironically because I have been in a very unhealthy, obsessive place with a parenting board, checking constantly, angry at the other posters because they are all out doing their NT stuff that I don't like or get. I sometimes wonder if my whole life is going to be just bouncing from one thing to obsess over to another, and so on and so on. Well done on leaving Lowe's... I know how much of a victory that is.
