Does anyone know if there is a tax deduction for having Aspergers. I would like to use the money to pay down my $3000 deductable so I can see a psychologist.

I cannot seem to find it. It seems there is for severe or total disability. But I am wondering if you can get one toward a medical deductable expense, like assistance with Asperger related issues. Thanks.

No, I don't think that exists. If you're on disability, chances are you can't earn enough money to have to pay taxes in the first place anyway... if you're not on disability then they presume you can pay your own taxes just fine...

That is the catch 22.

If I don't get the help, I lose my job. If I get the help, I am fine and dependent. I am stuck in the endless loophole that really sucks.

And you cannot get on disability because in order to do that, you have to go unemployed while you wait for the disability check.

All I want to do is able to access the little help I need to be independent. It is like an all or nothing thing. It is like the government will carry your one carry on baggage for you, or make you carry all your luggage by yourself, but it refuses to lend you a needle to sew a handle on your luggage so you can carry it yourself.

They create problems. They would rather spend $10,000 a year caring for me than spend $1500 a year so I can care for myself. How idiotic.

There aren't tax deductions specifically for ASDs, but I think that medical treatment over a certain amount becomes tax deductible. It's probably too high an amount that it has to be for it to be helpful to you anyway.. but medical treatment can sometimes be tax deductible, I think.

Medical Bills that aren't reimbursed are tax deductible, including some travel associated to medical costs. Unfortunately, it goes on your schedule A, and only a percentage is deductible. So, it really depends on your tax situation if it benefits you or not. If you go with the standard deduction, then it probably isn't going to benefit you. But, it your itemized deduction is normally larger than the standard deduction, then you would see tax benefits, but this is all after you already spend your money.

What kind of treatment are you looking for?
