to have a rediculously strong sense of personal space and to get quite upset when people invade it. Just asking. Cause that's me.

I think so, yes. Similar to being possessive?

It's more like I feel there's this bubble around me and other people should not come into it. And I respect the personal space of others and expect the same. But what I often find out in public are people seemingly flailing all over the place with no regard for anyone else. And that annoys the crap out of me.

I've found I've become more tolerant of personal space as I've gotten older and more used to people in general have a much smaller personal space than I am strictly comfortable with; Grandkids are especially good at penetrating my personal space. Some people for reasons I can't figure out just automatically set off the personal space barrier, if they walk behind me the hairs on the back of my neck stand up maybe they need their Auras cleaned or something. The woman I work with can walk up behind be and give me an uninvited and unannounced hug without any negative reaction. When I tell most people "well I let you touch me" they just don't understand that it's a significant vote of personal trust.

yes, and i'll tell you what else i hate lately - and i'm noticing people doing it more and more - when i'm standing near a counter or desk and someone (like a co-worker) sneaks up without my knowing and suddenly shoves their head down near my nether regions, while reaching down to get something out of the cabinet. i'll reflexively jump back and cover myself with my hands, which i'm sure looks very paranoid and odd to them. and it is. but they're rude. so.

I would imagine that it is an AS thing. I generally do not let others come within four feet of me. I think that I probably have wierded people out by actually recoiling in disgust when the unsuspecting NT positions himself within the said radius. I also cannot stand people sneaking up behind me, especially when one has the audacity to touch me on the shoulder to get my attention. I realize they don't understand, but it is bothersome none the less.

At times I hate people getting too close too. I'm sure a lot of people with AS/autism are the same.
