You may remember a post I made a week or so ago about an autism research study that I hoped to participate in. Qualifying participants can not only receive a non-official diagnosis (exactly what I want), but also get paid to do it.

Unfortunately I found out today that I was disqualified because my IQ is too high Someone suggested that they have a cutoff to better match results with the controls, and that makes sense, but still. NOT HAPPY. *sigh* I can't afford to pay for a diagnosis assessment, so I guess that's that then.

that sucks. hopefully someone will come along and do a study on IQ/function/autistism. someone needs to because they should be established as three separate scales.

my daughter was eliminated from an ADHD study for being an outlier as well. it kind of hurt her feelings until I explained there aren't enough other kids with her IQ to compare her results with, so her participation wouldn't be as helpful as another kid in the average IQ range. then she was happy. luckily I was still able to get her an assessment.

when I started looking into getting an assessment for me I was in despair over the cost and there just aren't that many autism specialists who assess adults, so it took a couple of months to find someone.

I hope things work out so you can get an assessment.

Are the costs of the diagnosis not covered by one of your health insurance policies, sometimes they are in the extensions? My insurance covered a lot more than I thought after reading all the papers.

But it is a bit annoying that they have an IQ cutoff. But I think it is similar with getting help. My combination of symptoms (fine motor skills are lousy, terrible social and conversation skills (this is a lot better now), reasonable functioning and high IQ) was not common in the part of the country where I lived, so there was no good help available and had to make do with different kinds of help.
