The mother and father of a 9 year old Autistic girl found starved to death in the bedroom of NSW home by a visiting tradesman, were both found guilty and jailed today. The mother was charged with murder and given a life sentence. The father charged with man slaughter will be eligable for parole in 2019.

edit NSW is in Australia.

I wonder what the reasoning was behind the man slaughter conviction of the father? he's equally responsible for his child so it seems like they both committed murder.

He probably got a reduced charge for turning on the wife. Quid Pro Quo.

Maybe she was identified as the primary caretaker and there was evidence she abused the girl while he was at work. It does seem odd, but there must be some reason why the court didn't find them equally guilty of murder.

From what I gathered from the story it sounded like the father didn't live at the family home.
