People like to simplify. Why try to figure out what the problem with something really is, when one can label it in their own mind as “PC gone mad”, without having to engage more than the minimum of brain cells? Why try to convince someone that something is a foolish or undesirable idea or practice, when calling it “PC gone mad” tends to achieve the same or better effect than a reasoned argument, but requires much less effort?

Do you mean "Why do people say that PC has gone mad?" or "Why do people say all these stupid things that are supposedly PC?" or something completely different?

PC meaning "personal computer," or PC meaning "political correctness?" It would help if you provided some context for the context.

Googled it, and it seems to mean "political correctness"... and upon thinking about it, I must agree... in my area, people don't question anyone about anything, or mention anything different about anybody... they don't openly talk about holidays as much as it used to be, or don't guess anything about a person because somebody "might" get offended.

On a personal level, I haven't run into the problem so much-I might get a dirty look here and there for stating something, or someone sometimes hushes me while I'm talking, but nothing super extreme.

I think what they mean is that, or how I feel about it, political correctness has branched from just "the golden rule" basically, into "you can't say this kid has autism because so and so might get offended", and "you can't say the color of this person's skin without knowing what their background is because they might get upset", stuff like that.

I've never MET anyone that extreme, but I've seen it. My son's holiday parties are insanely strict, and they can't even call it a party for the holiday that is coming up... it is a random, unnamed party, in which they can dress up if they choose to and bring snacks, and don't forget that each parent needs to send $5 for snacks and such for it... but they will not actually call it a HALLOWEEN party, because 10 parents are ready to scream and get the teacher fired for allowing the kids to have it to begin with.

I never understood stuff like that... why can't the parents of those kids who they don't want participating each chip in a few bucks and throw a pizza party for those kids rather than shutting down the party altogether for all of them and raising a stink about it.

It's just a matter of... we just have way too many people just waiting to be offended by something just so they can go scream about something else, lol.

So it's kind of gone from "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"... and turned into, well, stupidity, lol. In my area at least.

Does that help explain anything at all?

PC = politically correct.

It is often used by left-wing radicals to rid society of offensiveness.

Actually, no. It's right-wingers that do that. They take offense to the slightest thing, and think they need to censor out everything that hurts their little feelings...

Without rising to the obvious attempt at baiting, I agree that is one definition of PC. However, we still don't know for certain what definition the original poster intended, since he hasn't posted again to clarify the issue. For all we know, someone might be complaining because their computer's on the fritz.

And I'm probably being too literal-minded, but it's late and I haven't gotten much sleep lately, so I'm easily confused by little things. Sorry. :?

PC means politically correct. I prefer the term "RESPECTFUL LANGUAGE"

Call it PC, call it respectful language, call it what you want - I like language edifies and supports human beings.
