No, I like getting my own presents, unless I know exactly what the people are going to get me. I hate surprises.

My reason is very weird, but I'll share anyway... I don't like getting presents because the present they give me tells me so much about the person and about their attitude and feelings towards me, much more than I want to know.

Nah. Nowadays I just don't care anymore. Family still keeps badgering me about what I want for birthdays and Christmases. I don't know what I want because I never think about what I want. It's never a big deal to me anymore.

And I love giving, I give a lot, even if not on birthdays or Christmases.

I don't like giving nor receiving presents. It's just too much time & anxiety to be worrying about getting a gift. I'd rather treat holidays & birthday like any normal day.

I HATE HATE HATE receiving gifts. I really appreciate that people put thought and effort into getting me something that they think I'd like, but I really dislike to obligation of having to be so excited. I don't think I've ever gotten a present that I didn't like or that I wasn't thankful for, but getting presents doesn't do anything for me. All I can do is put on a fake smile, say "It's wonderful!" with as much fake enthusiasm as I can give, and move on.

Even on my birthday, I don't enjoy getting gifts.

My boyfriend's mom always gets me clothes, lol... she's big into fashion and has even thought about signing me up for those makeover shows before 8O I do my best to say thank you and all... but I must admit it's hard at times, and other times I almost feel an incredibly urge to laugh like crazy-like getting me nice clothes is going to magically force me to be fashionable :P

I much prefer getting gifts from guys... they are so much more practical for the most part-except my boyfriend... he always feels the need to get me something "sentimental" and I'm like "I have enough crap sitting around my house as it is, there is no room!" But when he gets me things like a new pillow, pair of shoes, or pots and pans, then I'm a lot happier, because I can put those things to good use.

Hate being forced (or at least expected) to feign enthusiasm and gratitude for something I didn't need, want or ask for.

Annoyed by the fact that no one ever gives me anything I actually did want. They always seem to think asking what I might really like would spoil the surprise (And what Aspie doesn't looooove a surprise - aren't we always all saying here on WP how much we enjoy unexpected and spontaneous occurrences?).

Hate being made to feel obligated to reciprocate. At least I do ask what others need or would like, only to be told (with false modesty) "Oh, you don't have to get me anything, I just relish the joy of giving". Don't ever believe that - if you take them at their word, you'll only end up responsible for their hurt feelings and resentment later. Of course, no matter what you give them, it will just end up in a closet, anyway - it's a no-win situation.

The only thing as irritating as gift-giving obligations are greeting card holidays. And when both fall on the same day (as they almost always do) - just shoot me.

That's why I prefer to give people food. As my mother used to say, food won't be a problem for them to find a place for in the closet. If they don't like it, they can always serve it to their guests or bring it to work and share it in the break room.

People tell me that I'm really hard to buy for. I usually get really weird things that I have no use for. More or less, people get me stuff that THEY'D like to get. Makes me wonder if anyone knows me at all, judging by the things they buy for me.

Last year I finally just set up a wishlist on Amazon. If people are going to keep buying me presents for the holidays, I may as well tell them what I want, so that they'll quit wasting their money. Last x-mas, I indeed liked all of my presents.

No! I never get anything I like! I just get useless stuff I'll probably never use. Jewelry, very expensive and fine jewelry, too, I've actually started a jewelry collection, perfumes, ugh, I can't stand smelling those fragrances all day, they make me nauseous, stylish clothes, I prefer my own clothes that I'm comfortable in, even if they are old, and not very fashionable.

Reading posts here: Really? I've always liked getting free stuff.
But then, my family has always had a list system.
