Easily distracted - insanely easily distracted.
Short attention span - if my attention is on something i am not very interested in, then yes it is very short.
common "spacing out" - i am always spacing out, or spaced out, or about to soace out. every now and again i am even returning from a space voyage.
Only focus one thing at a time - i hate the whole concept of multi-tasking. i can't do anything well enough unless it is all i am doing.
may appear to have "hearing problems" due to constantly missing bits of sentences. - just happened this morning when my friend was dropping me off at the shop. just the noise of the wind and the cars on the road behind me were too much and i missed 60% of what she was saying from about two feet away. and my hearing is very good.
appear distant, out of touch with surroundings. may feel disembodied at times. - yeah that whole wrong planet thing. when i do try to be somewhat social everyone seems to assume i am miserable because i am just sitting alone watching.
often forgets words, may stutter when excited, have pauses during sentences, or forget a train of thought mid-sentence - yeah all of those. had to think about the stuttering... it only happens when i melt down. i remeber my ex would always start mocking the stuttering.
disorganized thinker - depends on what i am thinking about. but honestly even what i think is somewhat organized is probably far from it for most.
may have a monotone voice more than average, or very monotone when reading out loud - i know i do when reading aloud. i pretty much refuse to read aloud.
loses ability to speak or think clearly when put on the spot - uh huh.
bad short term memory, good long term - i don't want to call my short term bad, but i am somewhat "forgetful" on very recent things and insanely detailed memories on the long term.
visual-spatial mind - spatial thought was my highest scoring section on my last IQ test.
stims often - ???
can't sit still very often, or may sit too still - i am very shifty when i sit.
clumsy - i am forever hitting my head on things, dropping objects for no reason, knocking over cups, running into walls and door frames, stumbling and so on.
exaggerated or blank expression, depending on company - not really sure. you would have to ask someone else. i do know my expressions are often "wrong" and/or misunderstood.
tendency to miss sarcasm or humour - oh yeah!!
gets frustrated, irritated easily - i don't even want to admit how bad that can be
can get obsessive or take intense interest in a subject - anything i ever find interesting i HAVE TO learn as much as i possibly can about it.
proccesses unexpected slower than the average human seems to. - yes. i am always saying "oh wait" five minutes after whatever has passed.
body often not in sync with excitement being expressed by the tone of voice or face - i have always hated the fact that i really have no clue how to express excitement... none.
enjoys mimicking noises, repeating words - i do repeat words and make odd little noises, but i can't say that i am intentionally mimicking noises
responds with a grunt or single word more than the average person - uhhuh
introverted to the extreme *needs* absolute alone time to recharge, may fall apart if made to socialize for too long - i am so often mistaken for being anti-social and/or misanthropic.
doesnt communicate ideas well verbally - i am an artist. 'nuff said.
preferres structured socializing, or socializing with trusted friends - when i do socialize i do better when i am at least aquainted with most of the people involved. structure... likes movies do make it easier. (and i agree what would an untrustworthy friend be?
enjoys routines - i have and fall into many routines. i do enjoy the security but it is something i fight with as i want to experience things even if it is on my own.
definite sense of "yours" and "mine" - oh yes!
feels strong desire to have control over own environment - just in the sense that i have my bag of things i carry everywhere and a corner to hide in for some solitary.
often misunderstood, may say something innapropriate - it is why i am so quiet in person.
social anxiety - this has lessened a lot since DX. knowing how i am different has personally helped me alot.
difficulty keeping up a conversation, finding right things to say - usually just do the nod and smile
trouble with empathy/sympathy may be too much or too little - far too little
social interaction seems "fake" - i don't try to fake it. my social interaction i am sure seems more odd than fake.
hates mingling - i am 50/50 on this. at say an art show, party where i know most people, or while doing a tattoo i can relax enough and sometimes enjoy it.
has few close friends, very loyal to said friends - very true
bad gift giver - bad in the since i don't just do it because of social or holiday expectations. i only give gifts to people i care enough to make something for.
likes to please, not sure how - yes yes yes
sensitive to noise/light/touch more than average - noise and touch definately. light in some circumstances. not so much natural light but too much artificial, or neon club style lighting at night can overload me.
may experience "sensory overloads" of varying degrees - yeah see above
startles easily - oh yeah
dislikes unexpected touch - depends on my mood and who is doing it. when my friend jess unexpectedly touches my leg in the car i like it. it feels safe. when the lady in new orleans touched my neck while looking at my tattoo she got screamed at.
easily distressed by unpleasant sensory input- i.e. clapping crowds may hurt. - yes... you also never know what a crowd is going to do
takes immense pleasure in certain sensory inputs. - yes. music in headphones, certain clothing and textures of food!

i have some nt friends that are quite weird themselves.

that is sointeresting. i've heard of that. i cant imagine what it must be like. do you think in words, then?
I found that interesting too. I ONLY think in words. I have AS with NLD, and I have horrible visual perception and spatial sense. I have absolutely NO sense of direction... Diagrams and visual aids do not help me conceptualize at all! If I read something out loud I remember it best, and I think mainly in words. I daydream in pictures and words, but sometimes my fantasies (or thoughts) are narrated like a novel. The spatial/ visual mind stereotype of AS is something I never related to. Interestingly, Einstein once said that he thought "only in pictures"........
In terms of your other list of common symptoms, I exhibit most of them. I definitely have problems with attention, get distracted easily, lose my train of thought mid-sentence etc. In regard to those pertaining to empathy and expression I am one of those rare cases of an aspie who is overly empathetic/sympathetic, overly emotional, and overly expressive. I definitely never had a monotone voice. For example a lot of people have confused me for an immigrant because I talk with my hands, and have a more expressive then North Americans generally are. I was born and raised Canadian though, eh...... (Lol). I think I just sound so awkward and different, that I appear foreign.....

and are you male or female?
I am female! I think that does have something to do with it. Statistically female Aspies do tend to be more expressive and more social/emotional, than their male counterparts. That is not to say that I don't have big social problems.....trouble discerning non-verbal cues, misinterpretation of subtle meanings, awkwardness, and also the absolute NEED to have "alone time". However I am very empathetic, and as I've said, expressive to the extreme.
I'm curious.....how social, emotional, expressive are you? Do you think visually or verbally?
Also sorry for my grammatical errors, I noticed them when I looked over my last post.
