i have chronic problems with being tidy, and wondered how common this is?

stuff on chairs, all surfaces covered, stuff on the floor.. it does annoys me sometimes, but i quite often dont 'see it'.

def have problems with associating putting things away afterwards, when i use things... i just go onto the next action or thought,a nd that one stops completly... if you see what i mean..

same here,
i just call it a "different sense of order" because like many aspies i have photographic memory so i don't need to organize things in order to remember where they are so why waste the time and effort.

BTW
the computer use the same strategy to manage your data on the disk,
it throw it on the nearest empty space,
that's why u need to defrag it every month or so.
i have a lady who defrag my apartment every month.

this topic i feel is related in some way to the one about hoarding. but yes, i am ridiculously untidy. and i think it comes down to the fact that i hate throwing things out.

Same goes with me. All my clothes are on some heaps (one special for things that need washing)
Books are stacked "somewhere"
I only make sure I don't keep stuff heaping up that rots away or gets attention from insects/bugs (the pizza from yesterday, the day before yesterday...)
Every few months I can make myself go through those heaps and sort them a bit (feel very proud of myself afterwards  )
But I don't hoard stuff, since I have no deep relation to things as such. In fact I have only very few possessions and could get most of it in a single backpack. (Not counting my computer equipment)

I like tidy, but if I don't pick something up right away then it looks like it belongs there, and the place gets really messy.

I let the place get somewhat messy but then I start to clean obsessively and only I can clean and put things in the places they belong. When other people do it, I get upset because I can't find anything.

Ms/Mr. Mess topic

The other posters said it better than I.

In short, I am a minimalist in terms of clutter but what is there is definitely not ordered in the usual
sense of the word.

I have heard all of the psychobabble about how we like to arrange everything neatly. This is not true for all of us. I am an Autistic who also happens to be a messy person.

Another neat freak here. Whenever I don't have anything else to do, I tidy up.

I am somewhat of a messy person but not organized. I tend to clean up a lot like all my dirty clothes have to be in what spot but my stuff isn't organized- well sorta is.

I'm not messy, I just sometimes forget to put things back in their place, which can easily be done if I or someone reminds me to do so.

Generally I manage to keep my bedroom tidy. Although when i'm depressed it's a completely differerent situation...mess everywhere! 8O

I can't stand living in a sloppy mess. That said, I do understand the not-putting-things-away issue. On one hand my living space is quite neat and clean in most areas, on the other, I have many hobbies that require stacks of research material, etc, and sometimes the projects go on for months on end, so I am loath to put those things away, since I'll be using them again soon. That, combined with the clutter of obsessive collecting, does have a tendency to make my home look like a resale shop, but I've been told it feels very homey, even to people who are there for the first time, so I guess it's not a flophouse mess, but comfortably 'lived-in'
