Just wondering, how is everybody with visual spatial skills? I have "Low Average" Visual Motor Integration, but I have a vivid imagination, and I rarely, if ever, have trouble finding my way around.

I'm the same. I USED to be better with compass direction, but once I have done it a couple times, I can do it visually.

Superb visual, poor 3-D spatial. This is not from a test, just from my own knowledge about myself. I have almost photographic memory but can't park a car for s**t.

My family seems to be the Oxymoron of visual spatial awareness! We are fine with geometrics, infact, my mother makes her living off of them! I believe she is an Aspie too, (apple does not fall far from the tree). She designs and makes Ukrianian easter eggs. I am not trying to shamelessly promote her work, (I doubt many/ any here would pay $200.00 for an egg) but some are listed on EBAY right now, and they show just HOW talented she is with geometrics! Seriously though, she has been told she is the absolute BEST in her craft, and even accused of using a "machine" or "templates" to fabricate them. If you knew anything about the methods, that is absolute crap.

They are breathtakingly beautiful, but who PAYS $200.00 for an egg! Sometimes I don't know who is the bigger aspie, my mother or her buyers!

My son and I are also relatively strong with geometrics, however our motor skills don't allow this kind of work, I doubt I could write like that on a paper, let alone a real egg!

On the other hand, we have very poor ability to pattern, and other areas of visual spatial awareness, like determining distance, or navigating our environments (very clumsy). I don't get "lost" though. I seem to be able to "map" in my head rather effectively.

Top 2% Spatial. Though it sounds like bragging, I would prefer less since it leaves me spaced out at times.

I also scored at the top in visual spatial skills.

They are breathtakingly beautiful,

WOW - they are stunning, and imagining the spatial abilities and fine motor skills - they're really unbelievable!

I know, it is all freehand and judging by the eye too! She has spent 1000's and 1000's of hours "perfecting" her craft, and now, much to her frustration, has people all over the world (even from the ukraiane) copying her "work".

Every week, she can make up another 3-4 brand new never done before original works of art!

I think she has very good spacial awareness, abnormal if if anything.

My son and I are good with geometrics and mapping, just we walk into things, are extreamly clumsy (I was known as a child to look like my dalmatian because of my "spots" (bruises)) Patterning also eludes us.

I am wondering if spacial awareness is another on or off thing with ASD. either you have exceptional Spacial awareness, or you don't. Much like sensory regulation...

I think most people with AS have good spatial skills. It is ANOTHER reason for the higher scores on IQ tests, as tat is one of the IQs measured. Vocab, Spatial, Analytical, Math

For other ASDs, it is a toss up. They probably run from very poor to fantastic.

I completely tanked on the spatial block design test on the WAIS. I don't think this is indicative of my abilities, because I know where everything is at the library where I work. Consequently, I can get over 90 percent most days and sometimes close to 100 percent.

Spatial is my strongest skill (short-term attention my weakest) according to most IQ tests I take, but I have visual processing difficulties. I think my visual-motor skills are above average but my motor control and attention issues interfere there.

In theory the practical IQ is supposed to be lower in AS with visuo-spatial skills a weakness but I don't think it's as simple as that. For some a nonverbal LD is definitely part of the picture but there are many with superficially normal language skills who are just as affected by AS and do NOT have visuo-spatial difficulties.

I've always thought I had really bad visual spatial skills because I have a very bad sense of direction and am lousy at geometry. Jigsaw puzzles I love, but I don't know why because it's mostly really just trial and error for me. Aside from that, how does one know if one has good or bad visual spatial skills? Can someone give me some examples?

My visual and spatial abilities always measured off the charts. My sense of direction has always been above average. I do a lot of hunting and fishing and rarely need a compass to find my way. I just seem to know what the right direction is. My social and verbal skills were always around zero. More realistically they were in the negative numbers but the tests didn't go that low.
