Sometimes if I remember an embarrassing or stressful incident I say (or mumble) a highly offensive phrase or words aloud. But only if nobody else can hear me. Does anyone else do this? It sounds very slightly the sort of thing I'd expect someone with Tourettes to do? The offensive words don't have any relation to the thing I'm thinking about and are not aimed at anyone. The words just come out. They are way too offensive to write here.

Yes. Often is it just saying the words 'mental illness' or 'autism' aloud. Other times somewhat more extreme. I often do it around people, don't mean to, but if I'm reading something while listening to my ipod and forget others are around...

I'm glad it's not just me. Even I find the little phrases embarrassing! If anyone else heard me I'd die of embarrassment or have a very hard time trying to explain the little outburst - or maybe even get beaten up if someone thought the comment was directed at them! It is almost like I'm trying to embarrass myself on purpose. Strange.

Well, wouldn't "when nobody else can hear" the most appropriate time to say those "inappropriate" things that are on your mind?

I love being able to make random angry exclamations out loud to random unpleasant thoughts and memories when nobody is around. It releases the tension, for sure. :)

I do it everyday, with or without strangers near by. Sometimes I yell really loud.

Wow! Do the words just come out unintentionally? Don't you get into trouble or difficult situations with those around you?

Sure, and also sometimes gesticulate and grimace and such, too. But not where people can see or hear it. It does seem like temporary Tourette's or something.

If you do it loud enough you scare people away so no danger. Which is unfortunate as mine are just below conversational level. Which suggests to others I'm clearly disturbed but not dangerous...

I sometimes catch myself doing an imitation of a gangster rapper for no particular reason and then laughing at myself.

I do this, it's a great release, and since no one hears it, I don't have to worry about hurt feelings.

Nothing knowingly offensive, but I do cuss a blue streak when I am alone.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it make a sound?

If someone swears a blue streak and no one else is around to mind is it offensive?
