Yeah, a lot of people are turned down for normal disability payments when they haven't worked long enough. The normal SSI, you only have to be unable to get work thanks to a disability. Then they let you on for three, five, or seven years (after which they re-evaluate), so you have that long to take advantage of a considerable list of resources meant to get disabled people employed. When I got mine, I found it a great relief to not have to worry about feeding myself RIGHT NOW, so I could think about the future, and long-term employment.
