Have you ever met someone, or more than one person, who either "loved" you, took care of you, or in some other way alleviated your feelings of loneliness, and made you think you would never be alone again? Then, did something happen to make you lose that connection (or connections) and thrust you back into a lonely universe?

It has happened to me. For example, there were two women in their late 60s who took a liking to me and took me under their wing, so to speak. Got to know their families and extended family for a brief period. Then it fell apart (they went their separate ways, I guess they grew tired of me). Yet, at the time I thought I'd found "home" at last, a refuge where I could no longer feel lonely.

Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever been loved or liked by one person, or more than one person and thought you would not be alone again, only for it to fall apart somehow?

Everyone dies alone. I operate on that default because I'd rather be grateful if it does happen vs pining for the inevitable.

That sounds a little too dire, but relationships are fluid and people change. You just have to look forward more than backwards.

A couple years I moved away from the first good friend I've made in 10 years. So I know how you feel.

Hurts like hell.
