Have people ever wondered if you were an idiot or just plain dumb? Even though I can be smart I have been thought of as a idiot many times by my peers. This mostly happened during my Junior year of high school I don't know what it is but a lot of people thought I was really stupid there. How about you?

Only people who think that about me are the ones who happen to not be very nice people. Every person who thought that about me always turned out to not be a nice person. So now I have learned that cue for when someone isn't a nice person. Kids that thought that of me in my childhood also happened to not be very nice. Then finally I started to see the pattern.

But I do wonder sometimes if I am just stupid.

People tend to think that of me, but less now than when I was a kid. The older I get, the less people think that and the more they think I'm quiet, and my quietness tends to offend people more often than my "stupidity".

Sometimes people jokingly call me / think I'm stupid. I'm not sure telling if they are serious or not, but recently I'm getting better at it. I've put up with people sometimes thinking I'm dumb, they may even be right after all, as I'm definitely out of sync and socially inept, despite all my efforts the contrary. However, now I have the strength and self-confidence to think that sometimes I can outsmart them. Even my communication is better than it used to be as I understand much more social stuff (in large part thanks to WP).

For me, quite the opposite. Although I think I am at times when I do something bad.

My boss used to think I was stupid. Said I would never lead a gang at work.

Same guy now says can you give me some help with my computer, I can't seem to send this email. (groan  )

I have the same problem. People have this perception of me because they know that I have Aspergers that I am dumb and not all there and that I would not have the ability to even turn on a computer or have the ability to be able to play a computer game or gaming console or that I do not know what I am talking about. I get told this everyday from neighbours who think or assume I am dumb, stupid and would never have the ability to do anything. Its degrading.

Sometimes, people probably do. But it's just outward appearance; which, as we all know, never really clicks with us anyway.

Just be confident in your strengths; and try to avoid those who would put you down.

Every day. What I think is worse though is when they honestly think I'm faking it.

Yep. -.-
I'm not, I'm a lot more intelligent than at-least most of the people who have thought it.
People tend to misunderstand me, and they normally respond in a way which makes me feel worthless, so I don't have the confidence to say anything.

Every single day. At work I have people ask me if im ret*d on a fairly regular basis. People notice and say things like "you confuse easily dont you?" or "why dont you go get me someone who isnt completely ret*d?"

I work in auto parts, I had a customer ask me for tires for a 75 Corvette, I was looking up the compatible tire sizes and the guy snapped at me and said "you seriously think im going to have standard tires on that car?" I apologized and told him i was just starting to learn the tire business, he said "do you know anything about aspect ratios?.... didnt think so". I kept trying to pass him over to one of the tire experts but all he was interested in was making me feel even dumber.

It depends on what I'm doing and who I'm talking to. Half the people I know think I'm some kind of genius and the other half think I'm a twit.

This is funny and very applicable to me as well.

Most of my online friends think I'm a genius because I come over very intelligently in text (when I'm not struggling with all that weird social nonsense). Most of the people I have a face-to-face relationship with seem to think I am stupid or slow because of the difficulties I have in communicating that way, and are often very surprised to discover how intellectually smart I am. There is a huuuge disconnect between the two.

That happens all the time to me

I know it.

Although they will never tell you.

Everything they don't understand is stupid.
