Hi Everyone! Thanks Greentea, Sparrowrose., Alex

A great idea! The position Pre-DX survivors face and have faced are unique to their historical reality.

We still live with the consequences of being from PRE-DX era and in many countries still have no supportor possibilities for a DX without great expense and the hurdle of geographical distance. ( yet another expense which can, as in OZ be prohibitive if on a pension).

I'd like to ask the 60 people who said they would be active in a forum for Pre-Diagnosis Era Survivors if it would bother you to make the In-Depth forum our home for discussion of our issues, at least for now (seeing as this is the option that Alex has given us).

I say let's """take over""" the In-Depth Discussion board!! ! And if we prove we're indeed as many and as active as we've said we'd be, with time we may be able to persuade Alex to give us our own space.

Is this OK for you?

(Please note this is NOT a poll. I'm using the poll function just for the easiness to count the interested people. I have to enter YES twice, because it requires 2 options.)

If I get at least about 20 answers here, I promise to start off in the In-Depth forum.

I am relatively new here and just voted yes as I am in this peer group.

What was 'Alex's Decision'?

I am guessing it was to NOT create a new forum for the lost generation but I don't like to make assumptions.

Another poll where I can't see the count, because I am not allowed to vote.

Again, my answer would have to be "I won't", as I've never felt I can use the In-Depth forum (too ageist).

Once upon a time there was some forum started for adults, back when the Cafe was unstuck.

I was invted and visited, their idea of adult was nipple piercing, phone sex, dildos, and and that is not my meaning of the word adult. Nor did it fit my view of an Asperger's website.

In a highly social move they got Alex to give them The In-depth Fourum. I was in favor for it consolidated everything I would avoid in one place. They stole the Cafe, which did provide just the function you are now seeking.

I have never been there, I never will.

My suggestion would be start a thread in the Haven.

As for age, I was just as blindsided by my discovery at 59, as someone making the same discovery at 23.

Before discovery I read, thought about the Universe and Time, everything that happened, what could happen, and was happy with my simple life.

I thought other people a bit dull, that they lacked some drive to learn, and were just lost in blind consumerism and hedonism.

After discovery, I have not changed, and neither have they.

All the points you raise are valid, and are what lead to the first Cafe.

People with some years of living do have a different view than the middle school set.

The discussion does continue on the boards I visit. There is has a dual purpose, the young and old learn from each other.

The old was kept adult enough that visits from eddiedog8, aussieboy, with single digits ages, the young and shy who would want an older opinion, and the totally tramatized, could read, post, and find a safe place.

It does fit the description of Haven.

Am I missing something? Why can you only vote "yes" in the poll? Is this a joke or something?

I checked the top "yes." I think your Pre-Diagnosis Era Survivor's forum sounds like a good idea, Greentea, and having it in the In-Depth Forum is certainly worth a try.

When does the lost generation start? Wouldn't the cut off be more like 25?

A 25 year old has barely any life experience (IMHO) to be able to understand the nuances of growing up in a world that for (in my case) 40 years had nothing but a thinly veiled contempt for my "disposition".

I think there should be an early-diagnosis group too, it would be good to be able to talk specifically with people who have grown up 'on the spectrum'.

But I guess this isn't really the thread to be bringing that up...or the forum, it seems like there aren't many diagnosed people here let alone people who were lucky enough to get early intervention (hence this thread).

edit: I don't really thing you guys need your own section anyways as you and your opinions dominate this forum in it's entirety anyway, your lot are the majority here. It's the early intervention dx people that need a space since we're always made to feel bad about our advantages.

Not to mention how pathetic a 20-year old looks when cruelly telling off a group of 50 and 60 year olds for their life choices and decisions. If anything, that lavish demonstration of ignorance of the subject matter helped exemplify to perfection why they're not let in.

I know you are talking about me, and I have to find it amusing because you really can't take someones opinion, and there would have been a backlash. I gave my opinion an you blew it up as if I was cruelly telling you off, as if you have some justification in stating that you have been through more than others have when you don't know their story. I am certain you have been through a lot but with your attitude, and the way you treat others (I have seen your posts, and you aren't nice at all.) So, instead of trying to cause drama in every thread you attend where you state someone is attacking you maybe you should learn its an opinion.

You don't like it, you don't have to listen. I don't want to be in the group, but you obviously did not read that, as if being in the group will give me some kind of glory

Those of us who qualify for membership of the Yahoo group are in a special position to help and be compassionate to younger WP members who are being diagnosed outside of childhood.

We can talk to them about difficulties in the work place, issues about long term relationships etc and generally give guidance based on a very long experience of being different.

They in turn have a place where they can talk about thier despair at having been 'missed' during the Post-Diagnosis Enlightenment age and we have an opportunity to give them sympathetic validation.

I don't actually feel any more deprived (as I approach 50 and only recently discovered with AS) than someone getting diagnosed with AS at 20.

Although I have had an extra quarter of a century to f**k things up, the fact is that the newly AS diagnosed 20 year old has like me;

Been an unusual child
Had an adolescence that he or she would prefer to forget
Had few friends
Endured great emotional pain (without really being in touch with those feelings)

and I'd like to acknowledge that in my opinion, those and other things in the life of a young adult/adolescent etc are no less real for them than they were for me.

My adolescence was absolutely miserable and I don't think that would have been diminished if I had been diagnosed at 20 or 25 or 30 or 40.................

I would really encourage the younger members to share their experiences here on WP knowing that people from the pre-diagnosis era respect you as fellow people with Autism/Asperger's Syndrome.

I was diagnosed at 5 and still endured all of these things, being diagnosed early doesn't change any of that unfortunately.

Not on WrongPlanet.net GreenTea. This is exactly what I wanted to NOT happen. I told you to not do it but you did it anyway. The moment you advertised your group and excluded people, what did you think was going to happen? Now you have deliberately upset the membership of WrongPlanet.net, you have intentionally caused conflict with other members

This is not acceptable on WrongPlanet and your threads will be locked. If you wish to advertise for your exclusive group, do it elsewhere.
