I think it’s nonsense that milk worsens aspergers, I remember drinking three cartons/bottles of milk when I was 7, one after another, and nothing happened to me.

I love milk. When I'm not drinking it in tea, I'm drinking it on its own. Also, my mother breast fed me until I was eighteen months old. I don't believe any of this has had any adverse effect on my AS.

You've misunderstood the discussion about this topic, but I'm not the right person to explain it to you, it would take me too long. I hope someone else turns up who can do it.

I have a fair amount of milk a day and it certainly doesn't make my AS worse.

Where did you get this information from?

I think this came up because in certain people, a derivative in milk called casein (sp?) causes an allergic reaction which mimics or worsens autism symptoms (similar to gluten).

I sometimes wonder if milk is actually a drug in me because I drink way more than the average person. Even when I was young, at lunchtime in school, I would ask for the extra cartons that the kindergarteners did not want (and would usually drink 3 - 4 during a lunch period.

PETA has a campaign underway that suggests a causal link between the consumption of cow's milk and autism.

good heavens. PETA is one of the worst cults I've ever encountered.

personally I think milk is a bad idea. I'm allergic to it unless it's been cultured some way and if I drink a glass of cow's milk I'll either throw it up or have an asthma attack. I don't think humans are meant to drink large quantities of milk, and human children should be raised on human milk not cow's milk which is meant for baby cows.

cheese and yogurt, those are a different matter. bacterial process changes milk.

I'm not going to tell anyone whether to drink milk or not because I don't care. I just get grossed out when I see someone drinking milk.

That's got to be this biggest B.S. I've heard yet.

I drink milk a lot - I love it.

They're still running that campaign?! 8O

I thought that plenty of people on the spectrum and in the general public told them off already.

BS. My son lives on dairy products, milk in particular. He's very picky. Also grains. He must not be allergic or he'd have a lot worse symptoms. I think.

Humans have been living on large quantities of milk, butter, cream and cheese for thousands of years.

What they were never meant to consume is all the growth hormones and steroids injected into modern farm animals to make them grow faster.

But I agree PETA is a cult. They should merge themselves with Scientology and looney each other into the next plane of awareness.

There is casien in milk, something that some (not all, but many) people on the spectrum can only digest down to a smaller molecule, but not fully. That molecule can get through the gut lining, causing problems in the blood stream. It is a similar issue to Gluten.

Its not an issue for all people on the spectrum, but the casien in milk is a problem which could be the source of this generalised statement? Hardly a cause, but would be bad for those affected.

Cow milk is nutritionally balanced for baby cows, not people, true, but I don't see what it has to do with autism or anything. I love milk(only whole milk, though), and it hasn't affected my AS. I mean, I've also heard tha vaccines cause autism. My brother and I both got the same vaccines as children. He doesn't have AS.
