Hi... I'm a parent of a 9-year-old boy with Asperger's. He has a 7-year-old brother and they are constantly fighting these days. It's driving me crazy! My older son doesn't really understand (or seem to care) that there is something different about him. But, my younger son I think senses it but doesn't know what to do about it and it frustrates him. Any ideas to help?

I can't offer any suggestions, but I can tell you that both kids are at the age where rivalry comes into play. I'm the oldest of three kids, two NT and me, an Aspie. My younger sibs fight all the time. The youngest just turned eight and, until the time she was about six, she never yelled at my lil bro or fought with him. Now it's constant. I think it's just a thing all siblings go through. I learned to cope with my brother and my rivalry and fighting by ignoring him. It took a long time, but it did work. I don't think my parents could have done anything differently to make us fight less, and we still fight sometimes.

Thanks, Taineyah. Believe it or not, it helps to have a sanity check sometimes (particularly during these long summer months :) Do your younger siblings hit/kick much? I think my youngest is really frustrated and I feel like he kicks or hits his older brother alot. (My younger one is the stronger of the two).

My Sister and I fight over everything. She has no respect for the likes and dislikes of the rest of the people in my family. The two of us just don't see eye to eye on anything. She thinks that the latest is the greatest and comtemperary is the best. I'm into anything that happens to do with the Mid-1960s (1964 to 1967). She wants to watch the latest shows and if I'm watching something that I like, she makes sarccastic remarks about the show. It's almost like Austin Powers sitting in the same room as Britney Spears. And she also makes comments about the down stairs carpet, which I like. If my sister gave me a quarter for each time that she say's "We need a new carpet. This one is from the Seventies!" I would be rich. She also puts down my mom's cooking, telling her that she should make more Vegetarian meals and the rest of us enjoy having our Meat. All that my Sister and I have to do is look at one another, and the two of us will break out into a silly arguement. Word up.

More often than not, my siblings contribute to my meltdowns. I have identical twin 4 year old stepbrothers, six year old sister, and a 8 year old stepsister (who's ADHD...). They really bother me, with grabbing me and yelling and everything is so loud. BTW, all of them live with me.
