Hmm.... what could be the reasons for beeing a lurker?

Sometimes I'm not feeling well, that's when I think that the "lurker condition" is taking over my life. Instead of answering posts or saying what I think, I just read on and on.

(I'm gonna continue on this first post, but I want to post something so I'll press the 'submit' button, before I delete everything since I have "one1ai's special lurker condition")

Thus this is unfinished work, but it reminds me that I had a good idea to start with.

Some people don't feel comfortable talking, and that's okay.
Lurk on. No one here minds.

I honestly don't know.

I personally don't really see the point of joining if you aren't going to post.. I mean whenever I join I always post straight away.. but sometimes there's a thread that isn't that interesting, I don't post.

Different strokes, for different folks. :D

I post right away, also. Anyone who looks at my post count with the knowledge that I have been at WrongPlanet less than a week can see that. My "learning style" has a lot to do with talking about what I'm learning; maybe a typical lurker's style runs more towards listening.

In any case, I'm certainly not offended. If I didn't want someone to read what I was saying, I wouldn't post it on the Internet.

I'm far more of a lurker than a poster. It is in large part because I have a disability of written expression. I have an extremely hard time getting my point across though written language.

Being an "observer" is just part of my personality style i suppose. Sometimes i even forget that im supposed to contribute, i'm trying to get more involved in things though.

I also think I'm an observer as part of my personality, I've been an observer for a very long time.

Vae : Do you think you can express yourself better by using some other sort of language, like... body language?

To join, but to not post, is to gain a body or spirit to wander the world(forums). Just a personal thing.

lol. You could be talking about me.

I lurked for a couple of weeks, joined, and now I lurk some more.

I guess we'll see how it goes.

Even though I don't post a lot I still read most of the articles. It seems a bit passive, but I still get a lot of insight just reading what other people have to say. I think I lurked for about a month before I joined. Maybe it's that my real-life shyness and reservedness extends online. :(

I find it easiest to express myself through spoken language.

When I lurked, I did it because I thought that I "showed respect" to the members of the forum, by not posting and giving myself time to read various posts and rules.

When I say "I did" it doesn't mean that I don't lurk anymore. I will probably continue to lurk for a long while until I get an idea how to solve it, because usually I wish to reply to most posts I see, but I reply to 2-5% of the posts I see.

On bigger forums like this,I read only for a while before joining,to get used to the forum and how it works.

Usually, I join a forum because I want to make a post (for example, to ask a technical question on a technical forum or to make a response in a particularly interesting thread). If I don't become an active member of the community, I just pass on the forum rather than lurk.

I read very fast, and will skim over many posts without posting anything myself, party because it seems it will slow me down... and partly because I'm often not in the mood to be "chatty" most of the time, to post posts without a reason besides opinion... I will once in a while, but I have very few compared to most people who read this board every couple of days and have been on as long as I have, LOL
and also, because I have not been "officially" diagnosed with AS, I tend to avoid bringing myself forward, because even though I have convincingly convinced myself that I belong in this category because I have studied AS extensively, I can't say for certain because maybe I was just dropped on my head when I was a baby.
