Somewhere centric like the UK or Austria, I'd say...

Just a train to some quiet bed and breakfast in the countryside, not expensive, walks and picnics in the valleys, evenings over wine in some warm, cozy village pub.

Doesn't need to be a convention with hundreds of people.

European Re-Union topic

If I had $2,000 American dollars I would be there in a New York minute.

:(

I hope others can go and then tell everyone here how it went!! :D

I'd go, if I can get away from my supervisor - I'm in Southwest England.

Maybe.

Would prefer the european mainland, in France, ( I live there ), Holland, ( where they tend to speak english too ), or southern Germany for instance. But might manage London. Somewhere smallish with nice landscape and cheaper accomodation would be best.

Great idea. :D

PS. I volunteer to help organise if anything comes of it.

That would be nice. I'd probably go bust though, travelling is too expensive for us (exchange rate)...

Thank you, ouinon. We could do all our grocery shopping and lay out cold meat, cheeses, vegetables, bread, wine and fruit picnics on the grass, have leisurely breakfasts on the porch of the B&B... We'd basically have very few expenses, except for the journey and the room (people could share rooms if they wanted, and it'd cost them about half the money). We could also get a discount for bulk booking.

Personally, I would do it even if only a few of us could make it. The more the merrier, of course.

I would but I'd prefer it if it was in the north/midlands and I'd have to persuade my mum like mad

Might be a good idea to have a second poll to see where/which country in Europe most people would really be prepared to travel to. :?:

I like the sound of leisurely breakfasts on the terrace/porch, if it's nice weather of course. Sometime in late April/May/early June, before the prices go up.

Although I would prefer the continent, ( there is so much lovely countryside, and good cheap food and pavement cafés, etc etc etc  ), I can unfortunately see why people in the UK would want to meet there, because the pound has fallen so much compared to the european euro that it makes travel abroad pretty expensive.

I think Holland would be a good place to meet...

although personally I'd prefer Berlin or Stockholm :p

ouinon, I agree with all your points. And it'd be lovely to co-organize with you. My special interest / obsession is organizing that kind of get-aways, so it'd be a pleasure.

anna, the problem with interesting places is that my obsession is traveling and so I'd probably abandon the meet-up to go exploring Berlin or Stockholm. It's stronger than me.

Just to give people some idea of possible, cheapest, accomodation costs;

The Accor hotel chain "Formule 1" is offering a hotel room, ( but no breakfast ), on the outskirts of Coventry, England, for £26 a night, ( for one to two/three people ), and in Strasbourg for 31 € the night, again for one to two/three people, at Easter. But the toilets and showers are in the corridor.

The chain Premiere Classe is offering a room, ( no breakfast ), for one to two/three, in Strasbourg, with bathroom, for 35 € the night, at Easter. But the cheapest chain hotels are often located in commercial zones outside the towns.

Two years ago the very cheapest room in a UK B+B that I was able to find, ( with family ) was £50 the night, ( but full "english" breakfast for three was included ). I think that there were a few/rare rooms at £30/£35, but all pretty isolated, and already booked up.

Those prices are all for the room, not per person.

ouinon, what about B&B in the countryside? Those that are not close to towns should be cheaper...
