I have had horrible acne for about 3-4 years now. I have no clue how to get rid of it. I went to my doctor and she prescribed me some benzoyl peroxide creams. I applied them regularly overnight and they didn't work. They were a pain to apply because I sleep on my front and therefore my cheek is on the pillow (which obviously rubs the cream off). However, I also applied it to my back and it didn't remove the acne there, either. Now, I have less on my back and more on my face. I do restrict my sodium intake successfully for periods of time, but haven't noticed any effect of that on my acne.
I am not going to remove all dairy products because of this. I simply will not be getting enough calcium products in my diet if I were to quit dairy. I am considering laser treatment; many people are saying it's effective. I've been obsessively researching laser treatments over the past couple of days because I'm tired of having to wear makeup every day to cover up my acne.

Shower twice a day, or more. and each time use water as hot as you can stand it, clean your pours out and remove the body oils., then turn the water to as cold as it can get, so to help close your pours. keep your bedding and sheets clean. esp your pillow slips.
in all my years I have had little problem with acne because of this. my diet may have helped, I don't care much for sweets and eat garlic in most everything (which has natural anti bacterial agents).
I can't take care of myself this well, unfortunately, when I have other things to take care of. Besides, every shower takes me about an hour and it messes up my hair; straightening it after each shower takes another half hour (unless it dries up into neat curls, which happens rarely).
If anyone knows of any good acne treatments that don't involve lifestyle changes, I would love to know. Thanks Willard - I will look into taking MSM pills and see if they work, along with topical treatments. If that doesn't work, then I'll go for the laser.
Lastly, I do think this thread needs to be moved into the Health section.
