I had made a formal appt. with my boss/principal today. I told her straight up. She then asked exactly what AS was. Then she told me it explained a lot about me, my mannerisms, and some recent actions of mine.
She knew my son has it, so we talked about that, as well as when I got diagnosed (what the doctor said).
She asked me what I thought I'd need, support-wise. I told her. Then she asked me to put it in writing, as a formal "professional development plan."
So I did.
I didn't want a professional development plan to have a negative connotation, so instead of saying "weaknesses," regarding Asperger's, I said "challenges." I also provided solutions to handle the challenges. (Bosses love when you bring solutions!)
In the same document, I then mentioned the strengths that AS gives me, which I then bring to the job.
All in all, it was a very positive experience. It helps her understand me better, why I do the things I do, and going "on the record" with my Dx gives me a layer of protection too.
