I was inspired by a post that I saw recently. What is:

A): Your ideal life (IE, your "heaven")?

B): When you go to Heaven, what would you like it to be like?

I would like it to be filled with off road trails for suv's and trucks to go in, big race tracks to drive the best cars in or whatever car you wanted to drive fast. Quiet, and certain areas with warm weather and other parts where it is winter all the time so I could go to whatever one I pleased.

But from what I hear about in the book of Revelation it's filled with angels yelling out the Lord's name.

Revelation 4:8-11 reads '8Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come." 9Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
11"You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being."'

So my thoughts are "if that's what the people God created are ever going to do, then I'd rather burn in the hell honestly.

My perfect heaven would be just some blank zone in the outer fringes of the universe where I didn't have to deal with anybody else and could just sleep all the time and never have to wake up, it would sort of be like being under general anesthesia for eternity, no need to do anything or deal with NTs, just blissful nonexistence. If I could be 100% certain that that's what it would be like, I'd kill myself immediately, because it would be far better than having to live here on earth.

Second place would be wandering in frigid darkness for eternity, being alone forever, like the Jack of Irish legend who was refused entry to both heaven and hell, so he stole a single ember from hell and put it in a hollow turnip to light his way, thus making the Jack-O-Lantern. (The turnip became a pumpkin in America.) Except I wouldn't bother with the lantern to light my way, I'd be perfectly happy without it.

The place where I WOULDN'T want to go is heaven, especially the Christian one where all you do is praise God for eternity, God must have one hell of an ego. The Muslim heaven, which seems to be all about sex, is only slightly better. Mormon heaven, where the streets are paved with gold and milk and honey flow in rivers, sounds too materialistic, I imagine that if Joe Smith was alive today he'd say that heaven would be Walmart without the trashy people. I imagine that the endless feast of Viking heofon (where the word comes from) would get dull after a while. People have had, and continue to have, some really weird ideas of heaven. I'll take nonexistence.

Somewhere where I can play with meerkats and tigers and such for all eternity.

My parents say that when you go to Heaven, God knows what will make you the happiest, and that is what you will get when you go. For someone who loved marine life, their heaven would probably endless scuba diving without the need for mask and oxogen tanks and friendly fish who let you play with them.

I'm noticing people are only answering about religious heaven, rather than the ideal life that people sometimes metaphorically call 'heaven'.

If we keep the world as-is, with all it's annoyances and, well, people, the ideal life for me would be-

- work from home at a writing/editing/tutoring job, and part-time at that
- run small web business to sell jewelry
- a small house on some land with my SO
- publishing here and there
- seeing my family less often than i do now
- leaving the house as little as possible
- raising/fostering cats and dogs

As for the religious, after-you-die heaven? Ideally, nothing. I don't believe in it. I think we just return to the earth, if your family has enough sense not to embalm you and shove you in an air-proof casket (because what the hell sense does this make?).

I once saw something on tv about how some people are creamated and have their ashes used to rebuild a coral reef. I like that.

A place where lying is impossible.
You can evade all you like, as long as you’re not bothering anyone.
But outright lies, deliberate misrepresentations, emotional dishonesty,
anything that relies of force or fraud is automatically exposed and eliminated.

Eat, sleep, work, play, learn…

We might not get much done, but most of what people do in the modern world is not worth doing anyway.

And I’d like a brief transition phase where we get to ask evil people why.
And I get to ask this god character, “What the hell were you thinking?”
And then we all move on and forget it.

For me, it would be Christian heaven.

I've heard that idea about Heaven, too, and I find it a very pleasant thought. I would definitely do something nature-oriented as well, like travel for eternity in a canoe, down a river on a hot day (high 95 F, low 75 F) when the sun is shining in a bright blue sky and the river water is bath-temperature, and I can stop at every sandbar and play in the soft sand (I have a thing about the feel and texture of sand). Then each night, I would park my boat on a sandbar and sleep in front of a crackling, wonderful-smelling campfire, underneath the moon and stars, while the barred owls serenade me with their "Who cooks for yooouuuuu?" song. No other humans allowed during any of this, of course.

Whenever I get to do that in real life, that is a slice of heaven to me. I am in perfect bliss, and it is just so nice to have a bit of time when I don't hurt inside. :)

In The Great Beyond:

I'd be little again and I get to play with
any other kid there and no mean people
to make me have tantrums and seizures,
just nice kids to play with and no strangers
either we all know each other and all the
kittypusses there and the puppies would
play nice together and not be mean.

U cood see any telly programmes you wanted
by just waving your hand infront of you
and any time you needed them.

Red Deer...without the panhandlers or annoying people or winter.Just summer all the time and only 2 or 3 days of work a week and never having to worry about rent or bills....work used to pass time only and pay for food.No wind so one doesnt get the chills while floating down the red deer river or swimming in the outdoor pool.Being allowed to drink beer while floating down the river or at the pool...then in the evenings, everyone goes to the rotary park downtown and parties by a big bonfire including the cops and judges and lawyers. And instead of buses for public transport when drunk, its horses and wagons which also have a route down to the river where everybody can launch then a route to a pick up point for when done floating, they can get a ride back to home or back to the river launching point. The police would patrol downtown on horses and in their traditional red serges and stetsons (mounties).

I love you.

My heaven would probably be a densely populated, diverse city in which everyone got along and there was no crime, people contributed to the beautification of the city, and there was never a shortage of things to do.

Move to Red Deer...although not all get along, most of them do, and crime isnt as bad as Edmonton or Calgary, although we do have some....Red Neck Deer is as close to heaven as you can get in the mortal world. :)

I want to observe the world in eternity with all its interactions, minds, ideas, dreams, all of that with a complete understanding and without being overwhelmed.

This thread reminds me of a quote "Maybe this world is another planet's hell" by Aldous Huxley, author of Brave New World.

Honestly, I don't disagree with him. If you ask people to really think about it, most will tell you that they're not happy with their lives. Makes you wonder if it's something we as a society created, or if nature intended it to begin with. All I know for myself is that "miserable" was one of the first multi-syllable words I learned. Needless to say, I've never been very religious, and don't plan to change it anytime soon. I believe that there's a god, but don't put much faith in him, because bad things happen to good people far too much. (I did become religious for a year or so after visting the Western Wall, but that faded out.)

As for heaven, I don't know. I'm Jewish, and Judaism doesn't have a strong concept of the afterlife. The Torah mentions Sheol, which simply means "grave", a place where the dead go; it's neither pleasant nor unpleasant. We'll never know for sure, because no one ever came back from it. (Well, if you're Christian, you could argue it about Jesus.) Whatever it is, it's gotta be at least marginally more pleasant than the world we're living in now. That alone is enough to eliminate the dear of death for me, and accept it as part of being human.
