Is using the phone as a barrier or to pass along messages to people a form of Aspie communication?

My friend stood me up once and instead of apologising straight to my face, he took out his cell phone and apologised to the person on the other line....of course, there was NO one on the other line. Sometimes he will pretend to text or call someone in order to avoid nervousness or appearing strange.

He has too many Aspie traits to list here. Should I just let him know that I know he is an Aspie or will it ruin the friendship? I don't want him to feel like he has to be someone he is not with me.

Hate phones. Hate hate hate.
Did I mention I hate them?

I had to get a phone with an Mp3 player in order to ensure that I didn't lose the damn thing.

You really shouldn't tell him he is Aspie. You might want to talk about AS and let him have a chance to see parallels in his behavior and the dx, but attacking him with that kind of statement may make him get out his phone.....
