How many here have it? I haven't been officially tested for it but I think I do have a mild form of it, I can't tell two people apart with hearing their voices. I definitely can't tell the difference between males and females very easily either. Voices, height and gait are what I use to identify people. I'm an officially diagnosed aspie btw.

Anyone else experience the same?

I thought I had, but according to an online test I found through WP, I apparently don't. I think my problem is, I don't actually look at faces, which is why I am unable to recognize them. If I see them, apparently I can remember them.

I don't remember faces until I am used to a person. Its hard to recall faces at will sometimes except family. I however can differentiate between male and female faces fine. When I try remembering faces other than family they are distorted i.e I can't remember all the details of their face like what their eyes look like or nose looks like its just a blur. It takes ages for me to fix a face in memory and recall it at will. When I meet someone a few times I can recognize their face the next time I meet them.

I don't understand facial blindness - with so many things with AS/ASD there will be variations to the classical definition of what facial blindness is, but I struggle to understand past not recognising people how facial blindness manifests itself to know if I have a variation of this problem or not - anyone get what I'm saying?

I think I do.

I struggled with understanding it until I realized that I deal with it to some extent and how. I think I have pretty mild faceblindness, and I've spent so much time compensating for it that I don't give it much thought... until I'm forcibly reminded when I fail to recognize people because they have different hair, or different clothes, or I see them in a place I don't expect, and so on.

When I was younger it was a lot harder for me to tell people apart, but I've developed a lot of ways around that. I could also distinguish race and gender (and still can) without a lot of difficulty.

So I'm still not sure what's going on with me, but I do know I have recognition troubles.

I have face blindness. I know this from experience and also from taking tests for it. I can't even recognise family members if I see them in a different context.

I have a hard time remembering face if I meet up with someone I know quite well in different location or they are wearing different clothes with a different haircut, or in the males have more or less facial hair.

I actually sometimes forget what I look like. I get very surprised by that strange 14 year old boy staring back at me int he mirror wearing my clothes.

I have it for sure. I can't bring a picture of someone's face into my head when the person isn't with me. I don't recognize people when I meet them out of their normal context even if I know them a long time (years). I was always afraid I would lose my own kids in a crowd when they were little so I had to memorize what they wore. Every trip I took my Girl Scout troop on, I made the kids matching trip shirts to wear. They thought it was sweet that I made them all souvenirs, I was just scared of losing one of them :) I can tell people apart when they are where I am used to them being (at work, at home). Best I can figure, I identify people mostly by their hair, the outline of their shape and a general vibe or feeling that they emanate. I can tell male from female 95% of the time. I have a heck of a time telling gender with emo teenagers though because the boys wear girls pants, nail polish, and makeup around here, so I have fewer clues.

Even worse is people's names (I DO know my families names!). There are people I have worked with almost 20 years that I don't know their name unless someone else says it, then I "remember".

I'm good with names, even very long African ones (Eritrean names are fun). I also learn to spell them easily. This is useful for my job. However, I have trouble putting names to faces.

I've never been very good with names, it takes several weeks of socializing with a person for me to remember their names. Though for some reason there are people that I remember their name instantly.

I think it depends on the person for me.

Now see, I also cannot distinguish between race (classic example was not knowing my first boyfriend was Indian until a few months into the relationship). But the thing that gets me is that I can't recognise identical siblings, if I had mild facial blindness I'd likely not have this.

I don't remember names. I don't remember faces. I mostly only recall people as "that guy from such and such place."

Do you mean you do not recognize identical siblings as identical?
